Um Grande Abraço!
The World Cup has ended with a bitter taste for Brazilians. We saw many teams being sent home early but in most cases their supporters could be in some way proud of their team. Take the Japanese fans, for an example. Their team did nothing but you could see them running and trying. They did [...]
The day after
After the failure on the quarter finals, the name calling and press whining has begun. Everybody’s sad, everybody wants to find the culprit for the defeat, and there is no shortage of scapegoats. Watching TV yesterday after the game was physically painful, as everybody had their own theory for the defeat and none of them [...]
SHAME! SHAME!! SHAME!!!
We played nothing! What was Parreira thinking??? Roberto Carlos? Cafu? Brazil didn’t play. The players were merely watching the game. We lost against a poor side. Shame on us, shame on Parreira, shame on Ronaldinho. Congrats to Zidane. Played well. No more Parreira! He played that ugly style in 1994 and he avoided our attack [...]
Brazil 0 – 1 France
So it ends (for real this time). Brazil is clearly outplayed by France, and loses 1-0. The only defence the French goalkeeper had to do was a couple of minutes before the end of the match.
Brazil started the match pretty well, but lowered the tempo shortly thereafter and allowed France to literally dance on the [...]
Adriano out, Juninho in, Ronaldinho goes forward
Breaking news! Just when I start to think Parreira is being too conservative, he surprises everybody: he has just told the lineup for the France game to the press (in advance!), and he has made some serious changes to the offensive lineup. He has removed Adriano, moved Ronaldinho Gaúcho to his position, and put Juninho [...]
Another game, another battle
Brazil plays the World Cup quarterfinals against France in less than 7 hours. See the preview preview here, and then follow the liveblog here.
Brazil started a bit slowly on the World Cup – winning all matches, but facing hard criticism because it failed to reach the level of performance expected by the media and the [...]
Ronaldo’s friends vs Zidane’s friends
Brazil plays against France tomorrow, as a mini-revival of the 1998 World Cup Finals, when Zidane was the team’s head in Brazil’s defeat to France by 3-0. Pelé, slightly controversial as usual, bets on a French victory, and makes Roberto Carlos pretty upset.
Well, despite the general “revenge for 1998!” feeling going on right now among [...]
Expectations… Results or Beautiful Game?
Brazil won again, this time against brave Ghana. I’m not sure if we will be seeing any of the beautiful style we were used to watch in Barcelona or Real Madrid in this World Cup. Have our players the talent to do so? Everybody knows that they do. The dilemma is whether you want to [...]
Brazil vs Ghana in video
God bless the inventor of the streaming video. Thanks to YouTube, here’s some footage related to the recent match – Brazil vs Ghana.
Records exist to be broken…
…and breaking them is what Brazil is doing, specially after today’s match against Ghana.
World Cup 2010 National Anthems: South Africa, France, Mexico, Uruguay
Seems like the most popular part of our World Cup 2010 preview podcast was the national anthems segment. I would agree, in that any segment where we're not talking is instantly preferable to the segments where we are. But since those podcasts contain only 10-15 second lyric-less samples, I thought it was worth expanding the idea into a full series of posts about national anthems.
As you hopefully know, the national anthems of each team will be played before every World Cup game, adding to both the atmosphere and the sense of occasion. For this first post, may I present the national anthems of Group A: South Africa, France, Mexico and Uruguay. [read more]
World Cup Moments: Philipp Lahm Kicks Off The World Cup Properly, 2006.
When discussing the history of any sport, any talk of the "greatness" is bound to be met with a quick hop in a time machine, going back into the annuls annals where myth and storytelling often displace fact and reality to the back seat. And this was necessary in a time when most could only follow sport through the words of others; words which were often embellished, contorted, polished, creating an aura which far superseded the event. Similar to the children's game which starts with a simple sentence at one end of the room and morphs into something entirely different by the time the exercise ends.
A lot of times, great moments are much simpler than we think. Sometimes great moments are just that: moments. Moments without grand results, without a decisive impact, without parades, and without babies being made on the streets. Merely a single moment in time meant to be enjoyed. And equally as often, these moments are right underneath our noses. [read more]
World Cup 2010 Jerseys: Mexico
We continue our review of World Cup 2010 kits with a look at what Mexico will be wearing in South Africa. As mentioned before, I have zero fashion credentials. Unless sitting through The Devil Wears Prada and finding it reasonably enjoyable counts. Which I'm pretty sure it doesn't. But I can offer an honest reaction that hopefully stays away from being either too snarky or too serious.
Big news is that between World Cup 2006 and World Cup 2010, Mexico made the switch. The big switch. From Nike to adidas. So the home and away versions of their three stripe manufactured World Cup 2010 kits (as modeled very seriously by Francisco Palencia to the left there) can be found below. [read more]
Wavin' Flag: The Song You'll be Singing at World Cup 2010
You may as well have a good listen to this song now, because you're going to be hearing much much more of it during World Cup 2010. It's called "Wavin' Flag" by Somalian-born Canadian-rasied hip-hop artist K'naan, [read more]

Sorry guys, but I had some problems with my Internet this weekend, so it was impossible to write about the match (a preview) and about the strikers, as I promissed. Anyway, now I think it's more important to talk about the match than our glorious past. ...

Great strikers
I think we're all going to agree that Vagner Love is going through a great period of his football carreer. The man is on great form. He has scored 12 times in his first ten matches. In all Flamengo history, only one player has better numbers: Pirilo. Vagner still has ...
