Magic Square is working!

June 21st, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 28 Comments »

Did you see the magic of our square? No? It is pure magic! It made four great players disappear!!! I just can’t help myself. I am upset. I agree with Zé that expectations were built too high for the Seleção but at the same time my heart is still hurt from such poor performances. I [...]

Brazil to test itself against Japan

June 20th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 43 Comments »

Brazil plays Japan next Thursday. Already qualified for the next round, Parreira could use that game to test a few different players in antecipation for the next tough games Brazil is sure to have.
Parreira already told the press that he expects to use Ronaldo again for at least 70 minutes. However, he was pretty clear [...]

Sheesh, get off our back

June 20th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 36 Comments »

You know, Daryl’s words on the preview of Brazil’s premiere match against Croatia have become quite prophetic: “there’s so much hype surrounding the World Cup holders and favourites that you wonder if any team could live up to expectations”.
That’s what we’re living through right now. The team played two matches, and won both, but by [...]

Rio after Australia

June 19th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 48 Comments »

I watched the second match in a friend’s house. Everyone had the Mané Sagaz green and yellow shirt on so it was a little funny. The first half of the game was absolutely terrible. Nobody was playing like it was for real. I could see no goal would result from any Brazilian move. I was [...]

Post-game Press Conference

June 18th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 48 Comments »

Here’s some highlights from Parreira’s press conference after the game today, writing as I hear it:

* Parreira was pretty happy (which is a bit unusual for him, which’s usually very serious and angered at interviews).
* The first objective was achieved, which was getting into the next round. He hasn’t decided the team for the next [...]

Brazil 2 - 0 Australia

June 18th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 61 Comments »

So it ends. It was a difficult match specially at the first half, although it wasn’t as violent as one predicted, even with a few yellow cards flying around. It looked like Australia could walk out with a tie or even with a victory, but on the last few minutes Brazil really danced on the [...]

Here Come the Roos

June 18th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 6 Comments »

Brazil fights the green-and-yellow battle against Australia’s footballeroos socceroos today, in their second match on group F. A victory would secure their spot on the next round, given Japan and Croatia’s earlier 0-0 draw. The same can be said for Australia. See more on the match preview, and follow the match on the liveblog. My [...]

20 Images of Rio

June 18th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 19 Comments »

Thursday I woke up and decided to stroll around the streets near my place to get some pictures for the blog. I hope more bloggers do the same, for we are only reading about it rather than having the visual experience that this event calls for. I would love to see the streets of Trinidad [...]

Comedian Bussunda dies at age 43

June 17th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 6 Comments »

Brazilian comedian Bussunda has died this saturday of a heart attach in Germany. He wasn’t feeling well after a football match on Friday, didn’t want to go to the hospital, and had the stroke when he woke up today. He was in Germany to follow the Seleção on this World Cup. Surprising news indeed.
How’s this [...]

What do they have that we don’t?

June 17th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 23 Comments »

I thought people would like to know what’s going on with the Brazilian press. Here are some images with some translations. It reflects mostly my general feelings too, like I said before, about Ronaldo and now about Argentina’s chances too. Take a look!
First after Ronaldo’s health:

In the first: “Ronaldo gets dizzy and ends up in [...]
