Adriano out, Juninho in, Ronaldinho goes forward

July 1st, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 52 Comments »

Breaking news! Just when I start to think Parreira is being too conservative, he surprises everybody: he has just told the lineup for the France game to the press (in advance!), and he has made some serious changes to the offensive lineup. He has removed Adriano, moved Ronaldinho Gaúcho to his position, and put Juninho Pernambucano on the starting squad in Ronaldinho’s old position on the midfield. With this change, Ronaldinho plays a role similarly to the one he has on Barcelona – the same role Robinho has played on recent Brazil games. Apparently, he will save Robinho for the late game, including extra time.

He will also replace Emérson with Gilberto Silva. The final lineup is: Dida; Cafu, Lúcio, Juan and Roberto Carlos; Gilberto Silva, Zé Roberto, Juninho Pernambucano and Kaká; Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Ronaldo.

I, for one, am pretty delighted with these news: it sounds like a dream team to me, even though Robinho is missing. However, it’s also important to notice that changes on the way the main squad plays at this point in time can be quite dangerous since they didn’t much have the time to practice together.

The antecipation is growing ever stronger.

Brasil better come on strong at the start of the 2nd half. France is looking crisp, but having trouble finishing. But they seem more consistent and hungrier than Brasil. We need to get fired up!

1-0 to France.

nothing more than what France deserved.

Brazil might snatch a draw, but that would be a crime against the beautifull football that France are playing

Slash: yeah, pretty much.

Listen, you don’t need to do a play-by-play comment here. There’s the main liveblog where people is commenting on each play, and the other article with the match results so far.

i apologise Ze. sorry for the inapropriate comments i made.

i`m e german fan by the way and to be honest was wishing for France to get through as if we Germany makes it to the final i thought we would have a better chance vs France… but after today`s game i wonder if Germany would have had it easyer vs Brazil.

Anyway, i`m off… good luck in 2010 guys

Slash: don’t worry, it’s not inapropriate. I just wanted to point the articles where people were actually chatting about the match so you wouldn’t feel left alone on this old article.

Dude, how are you going to be talking about how excited you were with Ronaldinho all the way up front? It’s all hindsight now, but, he’s NOT a striker. He’s at his best running at ppl from the midfield. You put him up front and he starves. Brazil deserves this loss. France were hungrier and Zidane was a one-man wrecking crew of your overrated midfield (Kaka included). I’m just glad someone brought these guys down to earth and showed them that whilst the game is played with skill and flair, desire, fight and humility are also needed. Allez France, just like eight years ago!!!

Parreira is the prime reason behind this loss..

Cafu and Ronaldo are simply old and lack speed.. Cafu’s side was open for attacks the whole game..
moreover, the whole team lacks stamina and good physical condition. no one was fighting for the ball. the players lacked team work..

thierry Henry was left the whole game without any control.

5 attackers vs 3 defenders on a free kick.. someone wake me up from this nightmare…

i think it is time for Parreira to find another job…

I don’t think Parreira is has made a good positioning for the first half match. With Parreira French has won Brazil two times.

I think it is time for him to look for another Job.

well…all i know ia that i couldnt be more pissed that italy won. i mean, Materazzi was clearly provoking sexc zidane cause he is the best player for france and he wanted him out. but, like Parreira said (brazil’s coach)”in life we lose and win”…very nice parreira. But BRAZIL will always be the best in my opinion and they’ll be back in 2010 where i can hopefully see and marry ronaldinho..if hes not taken …he better not be..i love u ronaldinho and the whole brazil team for that matter.
