Adriano’s Situation
Let’s talk about the Adriano’s situation. It’s well known the popularity of the Milan striker in Italy. They even call him Imperatore di Milano! In the Italian national championship he is third top scorer. With the brazilian national soccer team (as we call it “the selection”) he scored many times in important games. If you look at the Fifa Confederations Cup (Germany 2005), where we won beautifully with our normal “joy of play”, the Emperor scored twice against our main rivals Argentina.
So what’s the situation, after all? Well, here in Brazil there are many people that don’t want him playing in our team. Can you belive it? They say that he plays an “ugly soccer”. Before the end of the Confederations Cup it was even worse than now. People hated him! I was among the few that could see how important he may be in the World Cup. So I couldn’t easily express my opinion because my friends would gather to bash it with that “ugly soccer” argument. But when we won over Argentina 4:1 people began to accept the presence of Adriano in our team. Brazil has an “easy on the eye” soccer style, but sometimes we need a bull as a striker. Someone that will not fall all the time, but that will keep going towards the goal. And to that mission, he’s the man.
It’s already in the brazilian culture that soccer should always be beautiful, like Robinho’s (Real Madrid) or Ronaldinho’s (Barcelona). But I strongly believe that a great team should be able to combine artistic soccer with a pinch of power soccer. So coach Parreira have my thumb up to call the Emperor anytime he wants.
Do you have an opinion about Adriano’s style? Let me know!

I’ve never considered Adriano’s football as ugly, but I do believe that Brazilian fans not only expect their team to win, but to play the game with beautiful skill.
In the end, if Adriano produces results, it does not matter how ugly his game looks. So long as his shots go into the net!

Exactly! That’s why I don’t understand why so many brazilians dislike him so much. He may not be as artistic as Robinho and Ronaldinho, but he deliver results. In the end that’s what matters most. I want to see the samba party on the field too, but without results that would not be good at all.

I can’t disagree that beauty makes the magic aura of our game, but to say Brazil needs to BUY games? That’s a joke. Just watch the games and you’ll see what I mean. Or just ask people that have seen our Selection playing.

How come the only level of Brazilian soccer that wins is at the national level? There club teams always get destroyed except every once in a while when they rob clubs like Liverpool of 3 goals. Is any other country in the world marketed for soccer like Brazil is???
And I am not taking anything away from brazilian soccer they have some of the most talented players in the world some of which are my favorite players to watch but how many teams were robbed last world cup. I believe you can make the case for Spain, US, and Italy. Things are getting a bit fishy.

So São Paulo won the interclub championship buying the referee? I bet aliens are invading the Earth just to spread yellow shirts all over the world. I can see clearly now!!!

About the São Paulo X Liverpool game, The referee act right, because the strikers of Liverpool wherer in irregular situation, it was not legitimated goals!!!
