Another Soap Oprea Episode
I’m getting tired of this Ronaldo’s soap opera. Yesterday he felt headache and dizzyness. If he is going to ruin this World Cup like he did in 1998 I think it is time to cut the problem on it’s roots. Let him grab his pillow and go home or something. At least leave him on the bench for one game. Maybe he will start being really competitive and give us a nice performance. We have Fred and Robinho to replace him. Even Juninho could do better than him. Ronaldo have one headache and produces 180 million heart attacks. Tomorrow he will have a elbow pain or something, you’ll see.
I had to get it out of my chest… sorry. Wake up Ronaldo!!!

Why does the coach insist on starting Ronaldo when he is not in top shape and seems to have all these mysterious illnesses?
Doesn’t Brasil have other strikers like Robinho who can play and re fit?

Ab Initio: I think what Parreira is trying to do is give Ronaldo a last chance. It’s worth it, because they might need him. You don’t want to sit the guy and have him angry - you want him to play a bit more in the group stage to gain some sharpness.
After all, even if he doesn’t improve, you need him on the bench. If Robinho plays but receives a hard blow, maybe you want Ronaldo to come in. I know there is Fred also, but what if Adriano becomes ineffective as well? With four out-and-out forwards, Parreira cannot afford to have one constantly steaming on the bench in the knock-out games.
With all that said, Ronaldo should improve. He can be a drama queen sometimes and let us down. Maybe something is going on in his life that we don’t know about. Even the rich have problems in their personal life. And I think Ronaldo, with a child from his first failed marriage, and a woman he almost married who had a miscarriage, is no different.
These things take a toll. His eyes are not the same these days - he does not enjoy his time on the pitch. It’s not like when he was younger, when he couldn’t wait to out-dribble everyone and use elasticos all the time. It’s not only muscles that age but the mind too.
But somewhere in there is the old Ronaldo that I am sure even Chakan used to watch with a smile. Like Echo said, he deserves our respect.

The facts are clear. Ronaldo is not the same, or so it seems. Let us also consider the tactical facts of the game. It takes 15 men to win a soccer match (11 on the pitch, 3 reserves and the coach) Having said that, we must examine the mind of Parriera. He is not coach because of his experience on the field, he is a master strategist.
He opted to have the team train under carnival situations where it would be similar to the actual games, a lot of distractions and noise. He opted to play against 2nd string teams in freindlies. He is talking about an attacking game but defense is his core. Having an unfit Ronaldo on the field against Croatia is a ploy to disract the opposition. If u watch the game, no one really wanted to target Ronaldo. It is almost as if they deliberatly avoided Ronaldo who was probably told to hold back. This gave Adriano and Kaka the room to float around while Ronaldo and Ronaldinho were marked heavily. I do not doubt Parriera’s strategy. I just hope it does not back-fire.

no, u know this is the big problem of brazil in general, ppl assume shit they dont know and think what could happen and then they think alot of “if”, if this, if that, etc and no action, we shall look how the person is in the present and not because of what some1 did in the past, if so parreira should get pele and say him is still danger and him deserve a credit and put him stuck on attack and some time the ball on a matter of luck or chance will hit or reache him and then him score a gol and u say, see u were wrong, blabla.
Ronaldo should win our respect for the today and not because of what him became in the past, him should show why him is important and if him need time to get better and be on fit him should not have a lazy attitue, him said him played bad, not just bad, the lack of interest, him was walking on field, it was the time for him to run all around like crazy, instead of saving his leg to play the full game.
Brazil dont need some1 that is playing with just with his name.
im just stating a fact, i doubt about fred, fred probably dont have “credit” with parreira, adriano and ronaldo dont work, never worked and they may score gols and dat doesnt mean it work, with fred and adriano or ronaldo would be a diff, cuz fred is less heavy and tend to play coming from outside, but him is not skilled as robinho to make a fast game, but yet it would be better indeed, would be better fred + ronaldo or fred + adriano then ronaldo + adriano, again not because quality, but because tactic, but in my conception it should be robinho + 1 and this “1″ aint fred.

Totally agree with you, Euler! But probably I could ease your mind a bit with something that I came across in a Malaysian daily that link the World Cup champions with the Chinese horoscope. For those who are familiar with the the Chinese calender, you ought to know that given the quadrennial nature of the World Cup, the tournament always takes place in the years of the Horse, Dog and Tiger.
HORSE YEAR
1930: Uruguay
1942: (not held)
1954: Germany
1966: England
1978: Argentina
1990: Germany
2002: Brazil
TIGER YEAR
1938: Italy
1950: Uruguay
1962: Brazil
1974: Germany
1986: Argentina
1998: France
But interestingly (if not strangely)…
DOG YEAR
1934: Italy
1946: (not held)
1958: Brazil
1970: Brazil
1982: Italy
1994: Brazil
2006: ?????
It was in a Dog Year that Brazil managed to capture the title beating a European host nation in the final (’58) and Italy got into 2 finals (’70 & ‘94) only to beaten by you know who. Mere coincidence? If it’s not, and should Italy fall, perhaps Ronaldo can still have his evening walks on the pitch while watching his team mates slog it out cos the stars (both his team mates on the ground and the ones up above) might somehow hand him yet another winner’s medal!

and all about these what if this and what if that and etc… we should try something instead to get “blind” by they “what if” and what if with all these ifs we come up with a conclusion that brazil should not play anymore the world cup, not even the 1st match because all the corruption and violence and the complete lack of interest of the politics to make a better country, think about it, ppl would get real pissed, not just about the player but with the politics as well and them people would act to make changes instead of thinking if this and if that…. but i guess it will never happen, brazil will still happy in the ignorance, buying shit we dont need and watching rich players on TV that win millions doing what they like to do.

All right, I agree too much soap opera, but, what’s wrong with Ronaldo?? Actually, what happend before 1998’s final?? Is strange we still don’t know what happend that day, don’t you think??

Chakan,
Nowadays sport is pretty universally “bread and circuses” to keep people from focusing on real issues. It’s not just Brazil.

anyone remember 98? roberto carlos running down the halls of the hotel screaming that ronaldo was dying.. right now you walk into any barzinho, bodega, padaria, mercado, cabare, no one is too happy with him right now..

I just wonder where to watch Brazil’s game in Los Angeles on Sunday (and any other world cup game), where it isn’t crowded and where I could have more than just Brazilians watching it. I prefer not to go where Brazilians are - too much crap. Anyone out there who could indicate me to a cool spot where I can watch World Cup games in Los Angeles? Thanks.

Toncho: they did talk. They said he had a seizure (a convulsion) before the game due to stress, other players had to help him get back to himself. When they started the game he was pretty dizzy and the team was worried about him.
However, conspiracy theories still abound.
They did bring back the memory of 1998’s final when asking questions to the team’s doctor. The doctor just said he wasn’t their doctor at the time so he can’t comment on that.

soccer is a sport greed is not wat their playing for adriano is good it should robinho and adriano or if ronaldo picks up his game

Of course Napoli is backing his team. Normal! But we want the Hexa and we will back our team all the way as well.
In 1998 what we know from fact is that Ronaldo was taken to a hospital on that morning of the final game. Many players stated that he had seizures (convulsions) with rolled up eyes and tongue.
The logic thing to do was to remove him from the team at that final game but after being examined, his condition indicated no physical harm. He was feeling fine.
Edmundo was announced as the starter in his place, but Zagallo claims that Ronaldo insisted he could play. “Would you block the best player of the world” he usually says. (I would, but it is easyer to say than to do, right?)
He started the match but all the other players were too worried to perform. They were dead to the game. I’m not kidding, take a look on that game and you’ll see their faces.
There is one moment when Ronaldo falls to the groung because of a normal collision but a bunch of our players go running towards him to see if he was ok.
To be honest, even if Edmundo played in his place, I don’t think the team would be able to perform after the horrifying scenes they watched that morning.
This is the official version of the Brazilian players and the whole technical department.
The only absolute fact is that Ronaldo was rushed to a hospital that morning and that the whole team was bearing scared faces during the whole game.
Why wan’t him denied to play or replaced real soon… that’s Twilight Zone material.

Brazil, watch out for Italia, Czech Rep., and ARGENTINA!! Argentina 2006 World Cup chapions!!

I think I read somewhere in this blog that Croatia did good because the Croatian defenders Did not have to Cover Ronaldo because he fat , and slow…LOL That s funny maybe its true lol..
Diosnt Ronaldo remind you of a Hammseter, his buck tooth..and everything..
Imagine this, His head on a fat hammsetr body, it kind of fits. I can imagen him..lol
Honstly I dont think ronaldo is fat, he kind of looks like he aded some pounds but I dont think he did, hes just lazy, Brazilan coach has to put him in the bench alittle to make him hungry to play again. See, when a puppy isnt hunngry it doesnt eat, so when ronaldo sits on the bench and gets all hyped up to play he will be hungry for soccer and will do better. Its a simple medical treatment.. like when I play too much soccer on my PS2, I get bored, when I quit and wait for a day or two Im get all pumped up and I want to play it really bad.. I hope you understand what Im saying even though Im full with Grammer, and spelling errors. Anyways, the reason I wanted to post a messege in here is because I need the phone number from the brazilioan coach, I need to give him a call and tell him that he better dont let Australia and japan beat you guys, cuz that would maybe ruin Croatias second spot chances.
I think his number starts something like this, 788-9383, or was it 788-9833, anyways I need his cell phone number..what is the area Code he uses on his cell anyeays????

I love this blog! You guys are very funny!!!! Denis, I don’t blame Parreira to try one more time with Ronaldo, but I agree with you, about the hungry matter. He is fed up! Let him starve a little, right?
Barry, that was a killer!

Ronaldo Makes Me Sick
I cannot believe how a talent like Ronaldo would show up overweight in the greatest sporting event in the world. The 1996, 1997 and 2002 World Footballer of the Year was a disgrace in the first game against Croatia with Kaka providing the only goal fo…

ronaldo is a human being afterall, some of you don’t know that he has been dealing with injury’s for this past season in spain. he also missed the least the last ten games of the season with real madrid. he also is getting old it happends to all of us. even with all the things that are wrong with him right know, he is still better than half of all the players in this world cup. And way better than any forward on the u.s. team.
dont hate on ronaldo just because he is so good and all that he has accomplished. he is only 3 goals away from being the all-time leading scorer in world cup history.

ronaldo played better today, but like i have said b4 what a boring team and once again robinho proves im right, Brazil is a totaly different team when robinho play, brazil is great when robinho play, i think its his attitude on field running, dribling etc… make the whole team better.
