Are You Afraid of Brazil?

The Veteran Don’t lie! I know you are! C’mon, I’m just kidding. But the legendary Zagallo isn’t, and he has some interesting points to share with us. The real matter is that we already have 5 titles and it would be very upsetting to our rivals if we get the sixth one. Here at this blog I already got mixed feelings about this. Many people say it is time for a new nation to get it but, at the same time, many agree that our beutiful style would not be harmful to the real fans, in case we win again.

The absolute truth under this issue is that we are the defending champions at this moment. I don’t care if we are favorites or not, but I know that it will be 31 teams against Brazil. Beside being the defending champions, we hold the title record of the competition, so it will be an ‘Eveverst to climb’ for our team. Please read the Zagallo’s article and don’t get mad at him. He is an experienced man and he probably knows what he is talking about.

For those who are not aware of the size of my country, let me tell you this: Rio de Janeiro (the city I was born and that I still love to live in) has more than 5 million people. Not to mention the megalopolis condition that adds another 5 million. Alone the city has a similar population of Togo (Africa) and Norway (Europe). The country has more than 180 million people (praying for the Seleção).

After saying that, let me tell you what we are thinking (newspaper source): 56% of the ‘Cariocas’ (people who are born in the city of Rio) say that the ‘oba-oba’ (ruthless favoritism) can take away our chances in this World Cup. But at the same time 78% of that people say that we are able to get the trophy. I agree. We can get the sixth title. But I also agree that favoritism is our number one obstacle.

About fear… I’m afraid of every team in the World Cup. As Zagallo said, “A win against Brazil is as good as winning the whole tournament” for most of the teams (maybe all of them). They have nothing to lose when they are playing against Brazil, but to win the Canary side in a World Cup is a historical moment for any team. Ask the Italians and the French!

I’m afraid… I’m very afraid… you should be too.

I cheer for Argentina and the USA and I can state that I am not afraid of Brasil this world cup. Other than Number 10 the rest of the players are not in good form at all. The speed on the back line is not where it needs to be and Brasil will give up a lot of goals. Messi and Tevez will score two goals each against Brasil if they meet. Brasil it is time to face the reality that people say you are the favorite to take pressure off their own team. There are about five teams that could easily win the World Cup. My pick ARGENTINA! Quit being so arrogant. You could win the world cup but you are certainly not a huge favorite. At least not in my eyes. Enjoy the first round because you might be gone soon after that.

If Argentina plays like they did against Croatia maybe they should consider enjoying the first round. Brasil may give up goals but the ball bounces both ways and they could put a good amount in also. I don’t know what qualifies as huge but the truth is they are the favorite. I believe quality teams are not necessarily fearful, but they do respect the offensive ability that Brasil brings to a game.

Argentina’s defense is shakier than Brasil’s right now. 4 condeded against Brasil, 3 against England, 3 more against Croatia.

Plus, Ronaldinho is not the only player in good form. Kaka is still in pretty good form. Roberto Carlos is playing the same as always. And don’t forget Adriano LOVES to play against Argentina.

So you go ahead and count us out like you probably did in 2002. We may not win it, but underestimating our team with the talent we have is just plaing stupid.

No need to be agressive, Todd. I didn’t say we have won the Cup, after all. I just agreed with Zagallo when he says there will be 31 teams hungry to win our team. Not only because we are the defending champions but because of our tradition and our 5 title record. One cannot be called arrogant only for pointing facts, right? As I said before I AM worried about the first round. Croatia is very strong, Japan’s coach Zico knows the Brazilian style and Australia called some experienced players to the tournament, so anything can happen!

If I were Brasil I would not be to worrried about the first round. Look at our group now that is a worry! If Argentina and the Netherlands both make it out they might meet again in the finals. Also remember that the reason Argentinas defense has sucked lately is because the coach has not been playing the best four back there. I disagree with that approach but feel that in the WC with samuel, zanetti, heize and sorin the defense will be fine.

I think that Brasil is not what it used to be, African teams are coming their way and are demostrating to be very dangerous. Watch out for Mexico also.

Africans???? where are they now??? Did you see what Brazil did to them yesterday??
In my point of view only three times can win the cup…Germany, Argentina and Brazil
Our next adversary is France…we didn’t forget what they did to us in 1998…if weren’t them we’re allready HEXA (six stars)…Our revenge is ready…wait until Brazil meet France…You can start gambling…Brazil 3 x France 0

“VERÁS QUE UM FILHO TEU NÃO FOGE À LUTA, NEM TEME QUEM TE ADORA A PRÓPRIA MORTE, TERRA ADORADA, ENTRE OUTRAS MIL ÉS TU BRASIL Ó PÁTRIA AMADA. DOS FILHOS DESTE SOLO ÉS MÃE GENTIL, PÁTRIA AMADA BRASIL.”
