Brazil 3 - 0 Ghana

June 27th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 58 Comments »

There it goes. Ghana runs a lot and reigns with ball possession, but doesn’t have enough ability to put a ball in the net. Brazil scores an early goal with Ronaldo - which is now the new World Cup scoring record holder, gets an offside wrongly marked with the same Ronaldo, gets a goal with Adriano after an offside that was not marked this time, then another goal with Zé Roberto after a mistake by Ghana’s defense. A lot of yellow cards are given, and red cards are given both to one player from Ghana and for Ghana’s coach, after he protested Adriano’s offside goal.

Overall, I liked it. Brazil was the better team overall - like someone said, the objective of the game is to put the ball inside the goal, not to create chances and blow them away repeatidly - but the team still seemed lost for most of the match, with a lot of problems on the defense. Here’s to hope it will get back together when Robinho comes back from his injury.

To Izzy, Tom and the rest of the people who obviously don’t watch the WC… did izzy for instance watch Arg. vs Mex. that was 2-1 not 3-0 and Arg. barely won. Brasil is showing much better game in this wc than Arg. and if Germ. won’t defeat Arg. (which, I think, they will) Brasil will beat them once again in finals.

Tom, I’ve never read more amature analysis of the game; Brasil could have won the game by higher margin, they didn’t even run hard… but whoever didn’t notice that I won’t waste my time by explaining the details now.
to lolo - everybody can be a taugh guy over the internet; that’s en easiest thing to do end every bloger can do it but that type of language does not
belong in this blog. All right tough guy.

Guys, Perriera is aware of the fact that a Brasilian major weak point is fitness, it is good, but not as good as the other teams (Germany and Italy for instance), and rest days betweens Brasil’s games is fewer than of others, therefore, he had to win today with minimal efforts and avoid injuries (Ghana had 24 fouls and 4 yellow cards today) and if the ref wasn’t strict from the beginning by showing the cards early, we would have seen one of our players out of the world cup.

Brasil would have played magic, they are more than capable of that, but it would be risky and on the expense of accepting goals and may harsh tackles on one of the magicians!

Football in the World Cup is not the same in a domestic or contenintal league! All the teams have good tactics, fitness and ambitions, they know how to defend in a much advance way, moral of the story, Perriera is playing on the safe side as he did in 1994…

VIVA BRASIL…

Brasil may not have played as well as we know they can playh, but in the end what matters is the numbers on the score! Wether they were playing well or not the still won 3 zero! And if anyone took their time to check they woudl see that Brasil ALWAYS gets bashed for playing poorly in the begining of the Cups, only to come back and crush their opponent! Why woudl they kill their players and not play well at the finals! Lte’s win by 1 or 2 goals and then come back strong onm final day! I am Brasilian and I am not saying they are going to win! Do I think they are good and have a chance at winning?!? Absolutely! But then again everyone has a chance at it! I hope they win! I think it’s childish and a lil ridiculous that some “people” will stoop to such a low level, to start cussing and all this c**p! May the Best win!

Hey folks:

its over. just leave the
Black Stars alone. One thing is for certain: Ghana has proved it is capable playing at the world stage with the big boys. Going into this, they knew they did not have the finishers and that’s no secret. 2) This is not the best team that Ghana has ever produced. There was a time when Ghana could field about 4 very strong teams. Having said this, this is a learning experience for the Black Stars, and expect them to take world on in 2010, referee and all.

Brazil was giving it defence a practice session in the 2nd half. The way yhe goalkeeper kept on kicking the ball to Ghana, it was clear that Brazil felt safe and in control.
I am dissapointed with Ronaldinho
has not shown his best. regards

Kintutz: well said. They proved to be a great team, maybe just missing the final mile — efficiency and keeping their cool. To be honest I get the impression that they could have been better coached, maybe some objective training and planing would be made they go further, but I don’t know that much about the team so I can’t be much sure of that.

They’ll probably be one of the powerhouses of the WC on 2010, specially since they’ll be playing on Africa.

I’m not much of a fan of this brasil side. I like cafu but he’s getting old. Ronaldo has showed me up - he too deserves to be there. Ronaldinha, even when playing a quiet game is good (I will always respect him because he won’t dive - he’ll do anything to stay on his feet and keep going).

But some of the others? Adriano should be benched just for trying to match ROnaldo when he had a free passs for a certain goal - served him right for the yellow card. All the back four are a bit suspect although Cafu doesn’t make mistakes - he’s just getting a bit older and slower. But the other three are going to struggle.

Ghana played very well but the inexperience showed. IT would ahve been great to have seen Essien - he would have improved both their offence and defence.

Brasil got all its goals off the offside trap - and a more experienced team would have caught them on all of the goals - every time there was one ghana defender a little further back than the rest - even the one that really was offside. Also all credit to Ghana for coming out and attacking - it meant that they conceded more goals but with a better final ball from the likes of essien they’d have scored at least one.

The whole idea behind football is putting the ball into the net and the Ghanaians have not mastered the act. Why didn’t they even score a single goal?

So sad the wasted so many chances. Nothing to show for the fact that they gave Brazil a tough one.

Yup. If Essien did play this match, that early goal would probably have not been made. The defense would have been a lot better, the balls would have been brought up more, and hopefully they would actually go into the net. But then again, you can’t depend on a player for the games to be a good team. And I guess that’s what they did. Although Essien didn’t play, the balls were still penetrating into the Brazilian defense. It just didn’t go into the goal.

I bet that if those countless shots that Amoah, Asamoah, etc. actually went into the goal, that would have been a whole different story right there.

Nonetheless, although I am upset about Ghana’s defeat, I loved the way that they played. They fought hard, never gave up, and I love the team for that.

Cheers for Kingson for making countless saves, being brave and going out of the box (which I admit didn’t work in that 3rd goal), and just hanging in there. He, as well as the other players in Ghana did an amazing job.

I can’t wait to see them (hopefully) in the next World Cup. Next time though, I do hope that South Africa will get in, cause that’d be a shame if a home team doesn’t make it in.

Ronaldinho is playing like crap! He is trying to do it all himself…and when he tries to pass it is a stupid 1 in 100 lob pass that never works!

Everyone was on Ronaldo’s case after 2 meaningless games…now he is king again!

This was supposed to be Ronaldinho’s World Cup…someone please tell him that before his selfish play costs us!

Too many people expect Brazil to play like the older teams. They play well and I enjoy watching the games. Congratulations to Brazil, sympathies to Ghana….

I believe the home team always get a spot. I’m not sure.

Brazil wins even when they don’t play all they can. I’m really hoping Cicinho and Juninho will start the next match.

I can’t avoid the feeling to have Zizou’s head on a silver plate. In 1998 our team was dead because of Ronaldo’s condition. Now the two teams are healthy… duhn, duhn, duuuuuuuhn! Thriller!

The Ghana team doesn’t know how to shot on goal! There was only three real chances of goal for Gana. The other attacks was wasted by an amazing lack of precision…

And the Ghana team doesn’t know how to defend itself. It’s very risky to try the offside trap strategy against an experienced team.

The way Brazil is playing is not convincing at all. A team like France will punish their poor defensive set up. Against France, they will need the service of Gilberto Silver to play in from of the 4 man defence. Looking at the way France came from behind to defeat Spain, it will be a good game. Bring it on.

Good idea Zombi! Gilberto’s last name should be changed to Silver since he surely shows real value on the pitch!

Brazil against the rest of the world! Herculeous task once again… can it be done? I believe.

Go Brazil! Rumo ao Hexa!

I think it was smart for the Brazilian coach to be more defensive than offensive because they were making a lot of counter-attacks and they scored.

Too bad there are players from Brazil who doesnt work like a team like Adriano.

to Gregorinho: Ronaldinho said that he would be playing mostly in the middle and not forward. I think he played the games even if it means he doesn’t have to score but make great passes to other players.

It seems surprising to me that no one is singing the praises of Ze Roberto — he really pulled our bacon out of the fire with Australia, making some spectacular tackles just when Australia looked like it might get started attacking. Watch him carefully against France – hopefully Carlos Alberto Parreira will be smart enough to start him.

To our African brothers – nice dibbling and passing … but sorry, you are no “Brazil’

“There can be only one ….”

As much as Brazil’s gloating about their football is annoying — if it comes down to brazil and argentina, i prefer Brazil to win —

guess you can’t blame champions for gloating huh?

The quaterfinals agains France is going to be tough. Images from the 98 world cup may be haunting the more senior team memebers (ronaldo, cafu, carlos) who experienced that heartbreaking defeat.

Although Brazil are favourites, their defence is worrysome, and who knows that they’ll do next game.

On a side note, Adriano is soooo OVERRATED - he is greedy, he only has a left foot, and he simply doesn’t compare to ronaldo, ronaldinho, kaka. Do the ppl in Brazil concur?

I believe the whole nation wants Adriano out. Robinho is MUCH better working with this team. But Adriano was solid at the Confederations Cup. He is in a bad moment now, but he will come back next year or something.

Parreira, please remove Adriano! Try Juninho Pernambucano!

when brasil played against ghana there was no cheating as some people said.the goals were official. And it isn’t true that Brasil controls fifa because if it did they wouldn’t have lost against France.
