Brazil could (or should) provide World Cup song
So it seems that Il Divo has been selected to perform the World Cup song… man, this Simon Cowell is evil. That’s what I don’t like in this money-over-life life-style we live in. The pretty boys will kill our football mood with their opera voices. Simon is an Englishman! How could he do that to our beloved sport???
Well, I’ve read the Kevin Fylan’s column in Yahoo’s World Soccer site. He dislikes Il Tivo too. But the nice thing is that he suggests that Brazilian performer Jorge Benjor should be involved with the World Cup song project. That would be simply amazing!! He always composed songs about the beautiful game. Kevin mentions only 3 songs while he sings about football in many other songs too. His team in Rio is Flamengo, same as mine… cool songs!
The Umbabarauma song that he mentions really has a funky samba beat and after hearing it once again I must agree with him. It could be THE SONG. Maybe he could sing it in English and provide an adapted lyric to the whole world, not only the African point man. But the rhythm is absolutely contagious. It connects us immediately with the beautiful style that everyone likes to see.
Download it and listen to it LOUD! I bet you’ll feel like the World Cup is already going on. You’ll have a video clip playing in your head with your team’s heroes playing like Ronaldinho or Zidane.
The translated lyric is this:
Umbabarauma goal man
Umbabarauma goal man
Play ball play ball ball player
Play ball I want to play ball ball player
Jump, jump, fall, get up, go up and get down
Run, kick, find a hole, thrill and give thanks
See how the whole city empties out
On this beautiful afternoon to watch you play
Play ball, ball player
Play ball, corocondo
Slum Street Soccer Slum Street Soccer
Soccer Soccer Soccer Soccer…
This is the story of Umbabarauma
An African point man
A point man whose mind is made up
Umbabarauma

I thought that Univision had bought the rights to make THE SONG for the World Cup. The Spanish tv station also introduced the song to the world on New Year’s Eve and they call it Arriba! Arriba! Just wanted to say that.

Arriba Arriba? That’s strange…
Shouldn’t it be Vorwärtz! Vorwärtz!
