Brazil Fanatics for ATTACK

January 26th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 11 Comments »

Brazil have amazing strikers to use, and it seems that Parreira will put 4 to play at the same time. Daring, isn’t it? Our defense never was very good, and the more fowards we have, less players will be defending the midfield. Maybe the team’s attack will compensate with many goals but how scary is that?

At first Parreira didn’t want to use all 4 but the Brazilians were expressing this desire with such passion that he ended up trying, wich is a huge thing since he is very stubborn. And so he saw the results and found it was good. Like when God made the light, you know?

But now, listen to this! I was talking to a friend about using the complete quintet (Kaka, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Robinho), maybe against a weaker team or something. My jaw dropped when I heard his opinion. He said that Parreira should use SIX! Remember Romario, from the 1994 Selection? He was the main player on that conquest, and in the 2005 Brazilian National Championship he was the main scorer! He is 40 years old! Well, this friend of mine really would like to see 6 men hunting goals for Brazil. All I can do is laugh at him. Imagine the other 4 guys trying to defend alone with the goalkeeper. It would surelly be legend-like material. Stuff that dreams are made of. Like Camelot or something.

Romario never contributed much in the way of defence when he was in his prime so I can’t imagine at 40 he’d do much of anything except when the ball is at his feet.

I agree! He was always like that, waiting for the ball to come to his feet. Nevertheless He was 2005 top scorer in Brazil’s National Championship. His team didn’t win. That’s another reason I disagree with my friend. He’s crazy! But I must say, Romario deserved to be elected the best of the world after that Cup. He said he would win that Cup. He called the challenge to him. He said that if Brazil didn’t win the fault would be his. So he is great anyway.

And now again when if you consider that he is the top scorer of our National Championship (that exports the best players of the world) in the age of 40, well, I would call him the real “fenomeno”. But I would not invite him to this Selection anyway. When he was younger he was an amazing striker, that’s all I can say.

I Disagree, Romário is an excellent player, extremely dangerous in the goal area, and, if the team need him to defence, he usually try to help.
We do not need watch dogs in the field!!!

Speaking of Romario here’s a story about him.

Amazing to see him still effective at the age of 40.

Romario is one of the most unique players I’ve ever seen, and I think he should be included in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

I think the fact that he played for so long, in Brazil and Holland, hindered him, as far as worldwide fame is concerned, as those two leagues are often ignored by the rest of the world’s T.V. and newspapers. I’m an Everton fan from England, and I’ve been a massive fan of Romario, ever since I saw a documentary about P.S.V., who he then played for, back in 1991.

I think the comment he made about only Pele being better than him, when in the penalty area, is true. I’ve been watching football since the ‘86 World Cup, and I’ve never known another player who is as consistent as he, or as good, when in the penalty area. For me, Maradona was the greatest all-around player, but in the penalty area, even he wasn’t as consistent as Romario.

Romario lives inside the penalty area, that’s why he is so good until today. The team must work around him.

Here in Brazil we say that he likes to play “na banheira” (in the bathtub). This term is very used to indicate a lazy player.

Still, he is a monster scorer, so who cares, right?

[...] He can score goals too! In his last season in São Paulo he scored 9 of them, becoming the second best scorer in the team that won the Libertadores da América and Toyota Cup. He said that Brazilians have offensiveness in their DNA, and that’s a good explanation to why we are so fanatics for attack. [...]

romario was once a good player, one of the bests ive ever seen, beside van basten, robby baggio and fat ronaldo. but nowadays he’s too lazy, the more the time goes by, the more he gets lazy and less dangereous…

and what a disgusting thing is scoring goals against amateur teams to get to one thousand goals in his career… the best option he has at the moment is the retirement..

I am Brazilian but honest I think that Roberto Baggio was better in the 1994 world cup. Romario always seem so lazy but he come true for us and this is what is the case of the matter. He should retire he is old now dignify!!!
