From the way Kaka against Argentina and Dinho
against Equador reacted to first half benchings,
you have to assume that neither of them was taking any chances with the “we’ll be back
anyway” line of thinking. The game was
entertaining but certainly not well played by
Brasil. Thought the left back – I assume
Marcelo – had a very weak game, but continue
to be impressed by Elano’s character on the pitch.
BTW, Brasil hit the woodwork three times in the
second half – twice by Ronaldinho on really
well-struck free kicks.

Why so sure that all old faces will be back? As Dunga has shown, and as many of us knew, Brazil can field many young guys who actually want to wear the Canarinha! Let the new faces reign, let the oldies (including Ronaldinho!) join in only when ready to play at the same level.

italy’s soccer league is great and how could it not be with so many foreign stars playing there? as for the national team I agree with sandrahn, italy plays a dull game and relies too much on playing tricks. world champions? so what? portugal played far better than italy did…..since the 1970 cup italy has played a lousy game…..

Your comments on Italian football are not only inappropriate but obviously false. A little more respect for the world champions and our Europrean brothers.

Euler that is so true, i just came back from that argentine blog and man are they pathetic!
We beat them by a huge score, again, not 1 not 2 but three clear cut goals just to show our demonance against what they like to call “RIVALS”!
Come on we arent rivals, we just a TEAM argie would like to be 20 years from now.
What they are to us “DAILY BREAD”, whenever we play them we suddenly feel hungry for more.
“We could have beaten Brazil this, that come on they need to smell the coffee, they will never get another WC ever and 78′WC is our HEXA, morally anyway!
They dudes need to move on as they should’nt compare us with their immature loser attitude.
We lose only if let ourselves to not the other TEAM was better and the WORLD knows that, we dont have to prove nothing to anybody cause we know we are 5 steps ahead of # 2 and current World Champs.

The obvious subs at the half of the France game were Robinho for Juninho and/or Cicinho for
Cafu – even though either move probably would
have obviated Parreira’s 120-minute game plan.
The point was that Cafu was already gassed – I
think from being targeted and attacked by the French – and that Juninho was totally failing to
effect Parreira’s stated aim of crowding the midfield. The bigger question is why Parreira
again hesitated after the French goal and then
subbed Adriano in when he finally did act. The
only explanation that I can come with for all this
is that Parreira promised Adriano when he pulled
him as a starter that he would be the first or an early sub and would not go against his
word when the game situation dictated otherwise. Sounds crazy, but what other explanation is there?

ali,
I think you are being generous with brasil 2006. the canarinha could and should have beaten france with no problem. this french team was not great at all and zidane could have been neutralized. the problem is that ronaldo was merely seeking his record and the old gang were all out to help him get that (cafu, roberto carlos and parreira)while cafu was pursuing his own set of records while the better team members got pissed by this stupidity. the attitude of these three morons destroyed the team attitude as it was reflected by the actions of adriano who simply wanted to play and win without concerning with ronaldo’s record.
ronaldinho is not anymore a national team player why? we don’t know. is he too careful about keeping himself from risk? who knows but the guy sucks for over one year now and it is not fair to have a log on the team when there are eager players who want to play and win.

so far I am pleased with dunga. I don’t know if he is just as bridge or if he will carry the team to south africa but he has done something important in breaking the cycle of relying on superstar players. pele had to go to the bench and yet brasil won that cup and ronaldo is no pele.
just imagine if ronaldo, cafu and ronaldinho had been out and fred, robinho and cicinho in…..would france have won? I venture to say no.
