Canarinho Shirt Officially Presented
Rafael Sobis, Bruno Mezenga and André were the models to the Brazilian presentation. Our new shirt was clearly inspired by the 1970 Selection. That shirt had Pele, Rivelino, Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Tostão and Gérson within. After winning the World Cup for the third time Brazil got the Jules Rimet Trophy and was allowed to keep it for good. And that deserved glory is now revisited by our sponsor. The clean look is nice and it has a little detail on the sleeves that reminds us of the Copacabana sidewalk patterns.
Adriano was the Brazilian face at the German presentation that took place in Berlin. He was very excited to step on the grass that will be the stage for our first game. The final game will be there too and he was wondering if he will be there to battle for the hexa.
We can read “Born to play football” at the lower right side of the front, clearly a reference to Brazil’s ability to produce amazing players. Did you know that in the last 12 years Brazilians won 7 times the Golden Ball award as World Player of the Year?
The big issue, nevertheless, is that our uniform supplier is the money-above-life company Nike. Their 2001 Corporate Responsibility report is a clear statement of their money-driven cult. Nike has recently released a new Corporate Responsibility report were you can read a list of where their supplier factories are located. Some of these places don’t have efficient laws to protect the working class. They make big bucks to their share holders while selling their sporting material as it was made from gold.
The Canarinho shirt will be sold here in Brazil for about 85 US dollars, an indecent price for a country like Brazil. It’s more than half a minimum wage, so most people will be buying the pirate version of it anyway. I don’t buy Nike products, so it doesn’t matter that much to my pockets. The best looking shirts we had were Adidas, so I pray they get Brazil’s account again in the near future.

Nike isn\’t a good company but do you honestly think Adidas is any better? They use sweatshop labor as well. I think their uniform designs are better than Nike\’s but they both are pretty bad companies that are out to steal your money.

Adidas seems to be more social aware than Nike, as far as my internet research went.

I like Adidas the better, too. I don’t mean labor circumstances or such, just the quality and the design.
