Crossed Fingers for New Records

February 10th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 2 Comments »

Brazil can beat some records this year. If Brazil win Croatia in their first game of the 2006 World Cup we will have more consecutives wins in this competition than any other nation. We are tied with Italy (with 7), so the dispute is ON!

Another record? World Cup consecutive games without loosing. This record is already ours (13) but we can beat the 58 to 66 Selection if we get the trophy this year rising the undefeated mark to 14.

Top scorer of all all times in World Cups can be Ronaldo if he score 3 more goals. German Gerd Müller scored 14 in 70 and 74. Ronaldo has been collecting goals since 98. Fingers crossed!

Cafu and Ronaldo can reach Pele’s record as the only men to win 3 times as a player.

Cafu can present another interesting number. Small one, but big to history. If Brazil wins he gets to be the only national team captain to lift the trophy twice. Dunga almost did it too. He was at that 98 final, but we lost to France.

These informations came out in one newspaper. You can find this kind of curiosities in Fifa’s website too. Who keeps track of these things anyway? But it’s nice to know.

Sadly, Argentina has actually won many, many more competitions at the global club and national squad levels (check the data).

Maradona would have lifted the World Cup trophy twice if a Mexican referee hadn’t given the ‘90 final to Germany. I like Brazil. Certainly, they’re the second best team in the world - and they’re much more lovable.
