Dunga Calls Helton
Backup keeper Victor was injured and missed Gremio’s 3-3 draw this weekend with yet another muscle injury for the team. As a result, in a bit of a surprising move, Dunga had to make an immediate call up to the national team, picking Helton of FC Porto. Helton is a bit of a shaky keeper. I thought Gomes of Tottenham would have received this call.
One other player who is back from injury, but not quite match fit is AS Roma’s Doni. He is probably the most capable backup in my opinion. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him back on the national team once he is completely fit.

What about Diego Alves of Almeria??

Thank you jzlim11,Dunga is ignoring Diego Alves for too long now that’s how we ended up loosing players like Deco,Pepe ect…if Helton was that good how come Doni was the one playing the entire copa america back in 2007 Gomes,Doni,Helton none of them have been in better form than Diego Alves he’s been having great games since the 2006-07 season with Almeria i don’t agree but i can understand Dunga leaving out players like Diego(Juventus),Renato(Sevilla),Adriano(Sevilla) while he opts for not so good players like Andre Santos(Turkey),Ramires(Benfica,POR)because they don’t fit his system but a goalkeeper needs to keep the ball from getting in if Diego Alves managed to do what he’s doing with the type of defenders he has in his club imagine what he’ll be able to achieve when having our defenders in front of him i personally think his job would be far easier and better, the guy is a Julio Cesar in the making let’s just hope he won’t have to wait long to get his first call up like Julio Cesar had to wait an eternity before starting doing what he does best for the selecao

Thanks for the comments. Diego Alves had a very solid match this past weekend against Barca. I think at this point you know what you got in Victor, and to a certain extent Helton. I agree SOMEONE else should get a look if this is a position up for grabs, you might as well give Alves a look. Hopefully things will be shaken up on the roster for the England friendly.

I’ve written a look back on the classic Bolivia vs. Brazil matches of the 1990s on the Bolivia page. It’s obviously slanted towards Bolivia but if you disagree with anything have a look and leave a comment to tell me what you think.
