Dunga Names Squad for Argentina and Chile

August 21st, 2009 | By: Duvel | 8 Comments »

There are two obviously questionable inclusions in this squad: Adriano and Lucas. Neither has impressed long enough to deserve this call. Apparently Dunga did not watch Denilson run all over Everton last weekend as well. How he called Pato over Adriano is beyond words. However, its pretty clear that Dunga generally knows his starting XI, other than at left back. Pato and whoever else got a midfield call, was not going to start. Its still frustrating not to see Pato in the squad. I don’t really know what else he has to do from a club stand point to nail down his place in the team

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Victor (Gremio)

Defenders: Andre Santos (Fenerbahce), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Maicon (Inter Milan), Filipe (Deportivo La Coruna), Lucio (Inter Milan), Luisao (Benfica), Miranda (Sao Paulo), Juan (AS Roma)

Midfielders: Elano (Galatasaray), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (VfL Wolfsburg), Ramires (Benfica), Julio Baptista (AS Roma), Kaka (Real Madrid), Lucas (Liverpool)

Forwards: Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Nilmar (Villarreal), Robinho (Manchester City), Adriano (Flamengo)

Lucas will get more playing time under Rafa his season due to Alonso leaving and the new signing Aquillaini being injury prone. He seems like the successor to Gilberto Silva in Dunga’s eyes. Denilson is improving this season but, against good opposition he fades out of the game. Yes Everton are good but, on that day they were all over the place. Two free headers from free kicks resulting in goals. Bad day for them. Pato should be over Adriano. Hernanes over Josue. Diego over Baptista. People say the Beast plays well. Well, he does but, inconsistent. I can see Diego having an amazing year with Juve and breaking into the team.

Do you guys know what the latest is with regards to Ronaldo’s injury situation? I think he broke his hand, right?

Guindage – Still out with the broken hand. It was a four to six week time table for recovery, and the injury occurred at the way end of July.

Joel – I could see Diego playing well this year as well. He played great last year at Bremen, but it didn’t come close to translating into better national team performances. I don’t think Dunga has a lot of confidence in him, and unless Julio Baptista tanks it this year it will be hard for Diego to get a call.

Lucas won’t have a starting spot in the Liverpool team soon anyway. Aquillani will recover from his injury and take hi place and he will be considered as back up once again.I would consider Thiago Motta over him who plays for Inter. Even though he played badly for them today at the 1-1 draw with Siena.

RONALDINHIO IS BACK! Maybe. Played very well against Siena. Set up both of Pato’s goals and did and overhead kick which, was just saved. Looked like his former self. He is regaining his place in the team slowly if he carries on this form. Especially, if he plays well in the Milan derby next week. If Pato does maybe he will be considered.Does anybody know if Hunterlaar will be available for Milan? I knew he got sent off for Real last season and he was carrying on his suspension. Is he still suspended? If so, when will he be back?

Pato,Diogo and Hulk should all be considered over Adriano and Diego Tardelli. Especially, Pato and Hulk.

Ramires scored for Benfica in the dying moments. Good header form a free kick Benfica got.

the closer this game gets.. the more i start to like the call up of adriano im having flash backs of 04 and 05 in the copa america and confederation cups and the performances adriano put on. Maybe Pato wasnt ready for this game. Adriano is known as an argentina killer. bring him on a second half sub if were having trouble holding up the ball? why not

i still dont know why a player with good and excellent passes to take defenders making them confuse still dont get a call up.look at the way his passes and dazzlying still made us all see the weak side of pato. Dunga should know he is doing more than harm to brazillian team and ronaldinho. The earlier he call him to be more familiar wit the strikers the better because it is these execellent passes and the flair he has that will make the samba boys a Gold to watch in 2010 world cup.
