Mineiro looks like Mos Def. It's true. They could be twins separated at birth.

VJ: Previously (a couple of days ago) there was a sort of a issue because Edmilson was, let's say, "trying too hard" on the training matches. There was one special moment where he tackled Adriano who wasn't very happy about it, so Adriano went and hit him back right after that when trying to get the ball back. The kind of thing you easily see in matches when people get too serious and a bit angry about being hit. It was noticed by the brazilian press so it was mentioned at large around here.

According to Parreira, he noticed it and had the issue solved a day later, when they talked to the players and even got Edmilson and Adriano to have lunch on the same table so they could sort it out. Both dismissed the thing as being just part of the training matches with no issues taken to outside of the pitch.

I too was suspecting Edmilson's dismissal was related to that, specially since I know how Parreira keeps tight control of the team and wouldn't admit fights like that, but after seeing all the interviews by the players, the team's medic and by Edmilson himself, it's clear it's completely unrelated. Edmilson was feeling pain on his leg for a long while because on an injury he apparently got on some UEFA Champions League match, and since it wasn't going away, they did some examinations and discovered the injury was more seriously than he thought (and it will probably lead to a surgery according to their doctor) so the only viable solution was to stop playing and get it fixed.

There are rumours that Edmilson was dropped because he could not get along with Adriano and had even recklessly tackled the latter in training. I came across this in another forum.

I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything of the sort.

I feel for Edmilson he is my favorite I like how he plays. When I read that he was injured I cried. I know its not the end of the world but I know how he felt having tried so hard to get back from the injury he suffered at the begining of last season.

Mineiro not only scored the goal against Liverpool in Japan, but also has been one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in Brazil over the last few months. He doesn't have Edmilson's versatility to shift to defense in case it's needed, though. A smart choice by Parreira, in my opinion.

This will affect our team but nothing very dramatic. In yesterday's practice Edmilson went in to replace Zé Roberto who is in great shape and has a solid game too.

Gilberto Silva is Emerson's substitute. In midfield we still have Juninho and Ricardinho in which we can trust too, if Parreira want to be creative.

Anyway,Edmilson is amazing as seen in Barcelona, but Parreira saw Mineiro playing and decided he will be a good replacement.

Julio Baptista would be a good option too, but he has a more offensive profile. Maybe that's why Parreira didn't call him.

Yes, it was Mineiro who scored against Liverpool, Felipe:

"Apart from a Amoroso shot Sao Paulo had shown little attacking threat in the opening 27 minutes but they went ahead with a goal of breathtaking simplicity.

"A clever chipped pass released Mineiro, who had made a clever run from right to left.

"Mineiro quickly brought the ball under control before stroking the ball past Jose Reina.

"It was the first goal Liverpool's Spanish goalkeeper had conceded in over 17 hours of football."

Sounds like a smart replacement by Parreira. I'm glad he kept one eye on the home league even as he prepared for camp in Switzerland.

I am not so upset about losing Edmilson. He is a spirited player, but I think he had a hunch he would not play at the World Cup. If you'll recall, he was the guy wrapped in the Brazilian flag when Barca beat Arsenal for the Champions League trophy.

To sit on the bench, but know that you can't really be useful in this tournament - is not something that any player wants. Just think how Wayne Rooney will feel watching England in the first stage - and perhaps even beyond!

I will never forget Edmilson's chilena against Costa Rica in '02! A thing of beauty - something most defenders wouldn't even try in practice.
