Every time we say goodbye…
‘Why the gods above think so little of me?’ Edmilson must be asking now. Poor guy. It happened so many times before… in 1970 the midfielder Rogerio was injured and Zagallo called a goalkeeper in his place. In 1974 Wendel and Clodoaldo were dropped while the team was already in Germany. The winger Zé Maria missed the Argentina World Cup. Super striker Careca was dismissed from the 1982 dream team of coach Telê Santana.
In USA 1994 the defenders Mozer and Ricardo Gomes also were sacked from Romario’s winning team. Romario was dismissed in 1998 due to injury (or attitude) and Emerson, who replaced Romario, got injured before the winning 2002 campaign. Now Edmilson. He is already in São Paulo with a positive attitude: “I had a great season (Barcelona) this year anyway. Of course it is bad to be out of that team. I’m sure they will win the World Cup.”
By the way, Mineiro and his team São Paulo won over Fluminense yesterday and now they are the leader of the ‘Big Brazilian’, our national championship.
Edmilson said he will have surgery soon and will play the World Cup… in 2010, of course. Nice attitude. Was he hiding the injury to play? Who cares? If he did, he is a warrior anyway; a soldier eager to fight for his nation. Brazil is with you, Ed!
Below you can see some images of his dismissal and of Romario’s as well.
Edmilson’s tears.
Romario’s tears.

oh big deal … every nation has players not going to the WC this yr that could be in the teams starting 11 — either coz their injured or because the coach done like them .. its life and you move on (You should be thanking God that its not Kaka or Rohnaldino!!!)

Relax, Marco. We’re fine. But it was appropriate to acknowledge Edmilson’s hard work and dedication.
