How important is Ronaldo now?

March 27th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 7 Comments »

Back to inter? It felt very good to read what the Real Madrid’s president Fernando Martin had to say about our striker after he scored again this last Sunday. “Ronaldo is so good that everybody wants him. Being well and without injuries he is the best forward in the world, without a doubt. All we must do is to ask him to give his best.” See how funny and fast the football world is and how us fans react.

Bernabeu stadium gave him a standing ovation when he left the field on Sunday. That’s very important for him that is being recognized by the fans and for us Brazilians that expect him do be fully fit and ready to score when the World Cup starts.

Scored againNow I found out that Inter is considering an exchange between Ronaldo and Adriano. That can’t be good. Inter is putting down one of our greater scorers and dragging Ronaldo along with him. Maybe a change of atmosphere would do some good to them, but the possibility alone is offensive to both strikers and their fans (all Brazilians included).

How important to Brazil is Ronaldo now? Same as always: very important. Say what you want but his talent, strength and wit is still greater than of most newcomers. And let’s not forget that he is only 2 goals away (2 to tie, 3 to overcome) from a World Cup record. That may give him an extra motivation boost to run over Australia, Japan and Croatia.

Ok, so Ronaldo is showing signs of life. All media is jumping on the bandwagon to deny Ronaldo his proper place as a superb and talented player. Buttruth be told, he has not been showing his best side as of late.

Now Brazil has another problem. Adriano may not play in todays match against Villareal in the Champions league. Mancini is considering not playing the striker because of his poor performance this year(only 3 goals this whole year). That is two possible unfit main players on the Brazil squad. Oh-oh….
