Juninho Criticises our Defence
Our midfielder Juninho Pernambucano (Lyon) is worried about our defence, as most of the world loves to point as our weak area. Hear what he said to the French newspaper L’Equipe: “Brazil is a great team, with great individual talents, but it needs to find balance to win the Cup. We are not too far from that. We have great fowards and excellent midfielders, but sometimes we expose the defence too much”. Basically he confirmed what every rival think about our team.
Other things he said: “We must pay attention to that, in a World Cup things happen very fast. We saw what happened to France in 2002”.
About favoritism: “Germany, Italy, England, Holland and France are teams with great players, very capable of defining a match in a glimpse”.
About Croatia: “It will be a very hard game. We know they didn’t lose any games during qualifying”.
About his role in the team: “The World Cup is a collective competition and I will be ready to play if needed. I will be ready, but I don’t know how much I’ll play”.
If you ask me, I think our defence is as good as any. If you get the four teams that played 5 games in the Confederations Cup we will see that Argentina and Germany conceded more than Brazil. Mexico conceded the same as us too.
Take a look:
BRA: gf 12 / ga 6
MEX: gf 7 / ga 6
ARG: gf 10 / ga 9
GER: gf 14 / ga 10

Maybe he is trying to say that the defence is not as good as the rest of the team, but to say that we are weak, how do you explain the numbers shown above?
Australia conceded 10 goals in 3 games, so I hope they have improvements. I heard they have an experienced selection of players…

It would be interesting to see Croatia get over the line against Brazil, but it will be very very hard and most probably unlikely. But it wont stop me from dreaming!

[...] Today I will answer to the best of my abilities what is going on with the Brazilian defense. This post is dedicated to Rescorpione, an Italian football fan that have seen more football than most of us. He saw Pele playing on TV in the 1970 World Cup and told me he has nice memories about that. I can only imagine what great stories he must have to tell us, and I believe he has a keen eye when analyzing talents and styles. Everybody knows that he is not alone when it comes to our defense. Even Juninho Pernambucano is pointing out that our defense is weak. Well, I have my doubts about that. [...]
