Kaiser in Rio with Jagger
Der Keiser Beckenbauer is here in Rio. Still very elegant but with a certain warmth in his face he visited the Maracanã stadium yesterday and got his footprints molded in clay for the stadium’s hall of fame. Beckenbauer’s footprints are placed beside Pele’s, Romario’s and Eusebio’s.
Franz has played in our temple four times in his life, each time with a different team: Brazil 2 x 2 Germany (68), Brazil 2 x 1 “Rest of the World” (68), Fluminense 1 x 0 Bayern Munich (75) and against my team of heart Flamengo 4 x 1 Cosmos (77).
He is touring across the globe to advertise the German World Cup, but Rio has other things to show than football alone. He saw some powerful social works in the slums of the city. The funny part is this: he wants to chat with Mick Jagger tomorrow. The Rolling Stone one, yes.
The Rolling Stones are going to perform at Copacabana beach (free venue) this Saturday for an expected audience of 1.5 million people and Franz will be around to chat with Mick. It will be a historical event for the “bigger band”… another record.
