Love and Hate
One of the things that I love to do when the World Cup is in the air is to read international news about our team. Even better than reading the journalist’s views is to read the normal folk’s opinion. Here in Brazil everybody is fanatic about the Selection, but is always nice to read an outside impression. One site that usually has cool forums is the BBC site. People just love (and hate) our team!
I remember the 2002 Cup was amazing! I was glad to find a lot of fans around the world. Most people were saying very cool things about the Big Phils’s Selection. They said that our style is joyfull and that our players are the most talented of all. The great majority considered the result “well deserved” for the champions. But I was surprised that there are some people that just hate our team. To want your own national team to win is absolutely natural, but to hate Brazil’s team is a little exagerated, right? I hated Rivaldo when he gave us that ridiculous “oh, the ball hit my face” performance too, but I saw players from other teams faking injuries too. I don’t normally pretend anything when I play soccer with my friends, but it seems to be a normal thing among the professionals. So that should not be a reason for hating our team. So how and why can anyone hate our team?
This year Brazil is the favorite again so people will be speculating a lot and paying some attention, so I bet I’ll be reading a lot of interesting things. World Cup have the power to raise incredible feelings around the planet, after all. Even Americans are becoming more interested in the game. This blog is the perfect place for collecting passionate observations (and some logical opinions) and, of course, for people who love the Selection to keep loving and for the people who hate it… well, to think about it and express their feelings too, naturally.

Any time a team wins a lot there are going to be people who love them and people who hate them. I wonder if Brazil wins again this summer if that is good for the sport. Dynasties can be great, but it can also suck when you know a team is going to win even before a game is played. Personally I’d like to see a new team win this time so that another country can experience the joy that you have felt in Brazil five times.

First of all, there is no way to know that Brazil will win. However, when you have a team as good and as exciting to watch as Brazil, it can only bring good to the sport. For people who don’t really watch football, that could be a good excuse to not watch it but they would be missing out on something more exciting then they probably realize unfortunately. Brazil is a team loaded with spectacular players that are absolutely fun to watch. It may be nice to see another team experience the joy of winning the world cup but If Brazil wins, it should only help us admire there ability and style of play that makes football as beautiful as it is. It reminds me of what someone said once, “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.”

Thanks for the comment, Mark. I absolutely agree with everything you wrote. There are 31 other nations that want desperately for Brazil to fail, but there are many others that enjoy the Selection’s style. So let’s hope Brazil put up a really good show. Winning or loosing.
