Lucio Joins Inter Milan

Nearly as soon as I typed that the transfer window has been slow for major Brazilian players we had two notable moves, with Inter Milan being involved in both. Inter Milan sold left back Maxwell to Barcelona, where he’ll compete with Eric Abidal for the left back slot. Maxwell lost his place with the emergence of the very talented David Santon. This will be an opportunity for him to get back on the pitch, and make a case for a call up from Dunga.

The bigger move of the day concerns Lucio. I didn’t see this one coming. Lucio is on his way to Inter Milan. The fee was undisclosed, but it’s rumored to be in the neighborhood of €5 million plus performance bonuses. It’s a great move for Lucio. He’ll face better competition and lineup in the same starting back four with Maicon (unless he moves, which has been rumored).

My question after this: What is Bayern Munich thinking? You just sold one of the world’s best defenders. Your team was absolutely embarrassed by Barcelona in the Champions League when Lucio was out. To top it all off, selling a playing of this quality for less than €10 million is a joke.
