No Bodyguards for Zinedine
I know that I’m being very controvertial lately but I just LOVE this kind of hustle. Makes people think! People must think! Thank you, Jean-Yves, for the comment on Zizou. I must admit that I was talking good things about him and blaming him for the 2002 fiasco at the same time. I also said that if Ronaldo wasn’t crushed with pressure at 98 we would have a fair game.
I liked a lot to read what Jean had to say, because he have the same opinion as me when it comes to Ronaldinho. I just didn’t understand the bodyguards issue. You think Ronaldinho is silent? Why? He is just young. Zidane was calling the shots at 2002 as a dictator, that’s the reason for the internal dispute. In the Parreira’s Selection there is no room for egos. The egos are there, but they have “psico experts” to bring them back to normal. You’ll see Ronaldinho get arrogant, no doubt about that, but not at this age. He is very well knowed for his shyness. Not only that, but he is constantly coming back to his hometown and working with less afortunate children. What would these bodyguards stop him from saying? He will be in a team that includes Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Kaka, Adriano, Robinho! Some great veterans and some grand new stars. Zidane assembled his own team, since he was the big shot there, but in today’s Selection nobody has a final word, except Parreira himself.
About Zidane being tired… he is older now and he is going again! Henry will trust him again as the rest of France. He was not old then and is not old now. Read the Romario’s example, that was the main scorer in 2005 Brazilian national championship at the age of 39. Read about Cafu’s career! He is going to 2006 with 36 years. This age theme is “old” and to be tired cannot be an excuse for anything. Injured? Ok, thats reasonable. So, as much as I think he is one of the best players ever, he cannot be excused for Korea-Japan disaster. France loves him and the rest of the world admire and respects his talent, but 2002 was his failure.

2002 was not the failure of ZZ, it was the failure of a all country, we were so sure to be the big guns of that World Cup. With our 3 top scorers from the french, english and italian league. Our players were arrogants, our journalists were arrogants and we as supporters were arrogants. Then 3 matchs laters and no goals, we were feeling a wee bit humbled down…So we’we put down all this, on the sorcery of the senegalese marabouts who had cut thousands troats of chicken to give bad eye to France. And it work for the game against Senegal, but the sorcery was so strong than it went beyond that game and worked as well for the two others ! That’s the only plausible explanation for our Berezina !

I don’t agree. ZZ was the dictator of that squad and that proved to be unhealthy to the team. I like Zizou a lot, but the power rised on his head at 2002. No dictatorship can succeed in a colective sport like football.
