Our Team!!!

May 15th, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 39 Comments »

The Calling First things first, right? After Parreira read the names o four players I rushed to the computer to tell the world about the list. Now I can start to give more details about the team. As I posted before, we have most players coming from Europe. Only 2 players are still playing here in Brazil, since our teams are ruled by amateurs that are incapable of building structure for keeping our young talents.

GOALKEEPERS:

Dida from Milan (Italy)
# 1 – 2nd WC – NT games: 85 in 135 calls

Rogerio Ceni from São Paulo (Brazil)
# 12 – 1st WC – NT games: 16 in 38 calls

Julio Cesar from Inter (Italy)
# 22 – 1st WC – NT games: 11 in 34 calls

DEFENDERS:

Lúcio
from Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)
# 3 – 2nd WC – NT games: 50 in 66 calls (2 goals)

Juan from Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)
# 4 – 1st WC – NT games: 38 in 63 calls (2 goals)

Luisão from Benfica (Portugal)
# 14 – 1st WC – NT games: 16 in 40 calls (1 goals)

Cris from Lyon (France)
# 15 – 1st WC – NT games: 17 in 37 calls (1 goal)

WINGERS:

Cafu from Milan (Italy)
# 2 – 4th WC – NT games: 144 in 182 calls (2 goals)

Roberto Carlos from Real Madrid (Spain)
# 6 – 3rd WC – NT games: 126 in 143 calls (10 goals)

Cicinho from Real Madrid (Spain)
# 13 – 1st WC – NT games: 10 in 14 calls (1 goal)

Gilberto from Hertha Berlin (Germany)
# 16 – 1st WC – NT games: 8 in 18 calls

MIDFIELDERS:

Emerson from Juventus (Italy)
# 5 – 3rd WC – NT games: 72 in 96 calls (6 goals)

Kaká from Milan (Italy)
# 8 – 2nd WC – NT games: 33 in 48 calls (9 goals)

Ronaldinho from Barcelona (Spain)
# 10 – 2nd WC – NT games: 65 in 80 calls (29 goals)

Zé Roberto from Bayern Munique (Germany)
# 11 – 2nd WC – NT games: 79 in 118 calls (5 goals)

Gilberto Silva from Arsenal (England)
# 17 – 2nd WC – NT games: 38 in 51 calls (3 goals)

Edmílson from Barcelona (Spain)
# 18 – 2nd WC – NT games: 36 in 53 calls (2 goals)

Juninho Pernambucano from Lyon (France)
# 19 – 1st WC – NT games: 38 in 53 calls (4 goals)

Ricardinho from Corinthians (Brazil)
# 20 – 2nd WC – NT games: 18 in 28 calls (1 goal)

FOWARDS:

Adriano from Inter Milan (Italy)
# 7 – 1st WC – NT games: 33 in 45 calls (22 goals)

Ronaldo from Real Madrid (Spain)
# 9 – 4th WC – NT games: 97 in 122 calls (61 goals)

Fred from Lyon (France)
# 21 – 1st WC – NT games: 3 in 4 calls (2 goals)

Robinho from Real Madrid (Spain)
# 23 – 1st WC – NT games: 18 in 22 calls (5 goals)

Of course now there will be a great wave of regular anonymous coaches to start throwing all sorts of opinions over who should be the starters. For now all we have is the official list of players that will start in the first match (Croatia): Dida; Cafu, Juan, Lúcio, Roberto Carlos, Emerson, Zé Roberto, Kaká, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo e Adriano. The “magic quartet”, as we call the four men in the most creative sector of the field (Kaká, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo e Adriano), will have a chance to perform and to prove it can work. Parreira will quickly dismiss it if the team performs below the expectations.

Please let me know your own opinion about the complete list and who should start, ok? I’ll gather all your opinions to write about it later.

Also I taped Parreira’s interview and I’ll translate it here. There were some strong words about our chances that I believe will spark some reactions around here. Stay tuned!

Yes I would have Gilberto Silva as a holding mid-fielder, but he would be partnering Emerson. So my Brasil line up is as follows:

Dida—Cicinho, Juan, Lucio, Ze Roberto–Juninho P., Emerson, Gilberto Silva—Ronaldinho—Fred, Adriano

This is the perfect combination of attacking flamboyance and defensive solidity. Cicinho and Ze Roberto could overlap into the attack and defend. Emerson and Gilberto would crush any attacking build up by the opposing team. Juninho would be there to provide crosses, and distribute the ball. He would defend as well.

Kaka is really unnecessary and would undermine the balance of the team. Because he is not going to have the license to roam freely—that’s little Ron’s job.

My primary subs for key positions:

Forward: Ronaldo
Attacking Mid: Kaka
Holding Mid: Edmilson
Center Back: Lusiao

Ok, you know what Kaka can play in my team. But Fred would have to sacrificed and Kaka would be pushed up. He would play behind Adriano and to the right, while Ronaldinho would play Behind Adriano and to the left.

Dida—Cicinho, Juan, Lucio, Ze Roberto–Juninho P., Emerson, Gilberto Silva—KaKa, Adriano, Ronaldinho.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Kaka is great. I am just not a fan of two attacking mids and two forwards—which is a team that has defensive liability. 3 attackers is enough.

I would be concerned about Brazil’s backfield if I were you - ESPECIALLY if they face the Italian attack during the round of 16.

You have an awesome squad, but that is your weakness, and for once, Italy have depth up front.

To the person who said that Kaka’ helps out on Defense… that’s good! You will NEED him to do so!

i was actually hoping that mancini would make the trip too…mancini over ricardinho and baptista over edmilson..

ronaldo will do good on world cup…his finishing still clinical…partner him will adriano will create lots of problem to defenders so ronaldinho can get some room to create his magic…midfields kaka, ronaldinho creates while gilberto silva and emerson to patrol in midfield..the flanks will be raid by roberto carlos and cafu after all…

lucio and juan will be fine if they are not getting stupid and think of themselves as striker as well..haha

I would have Luisao and Lucio in the Back Playing with Edmilson As stoping midfield but integrated as a Third dEFENDER switching the formation from 4-4-2 to 5-4-1 depending how the plays develop. Gilberto Silva is the Defensive midfielder playing along side or in front of Edmilson.

That leaves Roberto Carlos on the Left, Cafu on the Right.

Juninho plays in front of them in the middle or depending what side the attack develops. Ronaldinho would play free in front.

As forwards I would have Adriano and Kaka as starters. When Ronaldinho moves as forward Kaka can compliment the midfield and Adriano as Sole Center Forward.

Rogerio Semi my Keeper.

Rogerio

Lucio- Edmilson - Luisao

Cafu- -Roberto Carlos

Gilberto Silva- Junhinho

Kaka - Ronaldinho - Adriano

Ronaldo lacks the speed and is too stuffy to perform with no doubt the best players in the world like Ronaldinho and Emerson. Roberto Carlos can be dropped for Juninho no doubt the best free kick specialist the world has now. No wonder its going to be a Brazil World Cup this time, I can feel that now.

I can’t believe Australia is top of group F.

I agree that Kaka should be dropped. He plays the same position as Ronaldhino in Inter Milan. Juninho is a better choice.

GO ADRIANO!

Emerson & Ze Roberto should be dropped & Replaced with Richardinho & Juninho P (Best Free-Kick Take Ever) & Robinho & Adriano make a much better pairing than Ronaldo & Adriano.
