Parreira and Fred Land New Jobs

March 7th, 2009 | By: Duvel | 2 Comments »

Fluminense has signed ex-Lyon forward Fred and appointed Carlos Alberto Parreira, Dunga’s predecessor for the national team, as manager. This move for Fred will give him the opportunity to standout once again, as he had a more diminished role at Lyon this season, and make the case for future call ups for the national team. Fred is only 25 years old and I believe has a lot of good football left in him. He had a great deal of success at Lyon prior to this season and I think this will be a good move. As for Parreira, this will give him a chance to regain some of the respect he lost with his team’s disappointing performance at the 2006 World Cup.

I actually think Fluminese have a strong chance along with Corinthians to challenge Sao Paolo for the Championship this year, Fred & Parreira are great adds and i wish them great success. it would of been better if they had kept Thiago Neves though; he’s class.

Funny you should mention Thiago Neves, he actually was loaned back to the club for the year. I didn’t do an article for it because it was a rather low profile move. It was part of a transaction in which he was purchased by the Saudi club Al-Hilal, but loaned out for a year. This is unfortuante as I don’t think its a good move as far as his national team future goes. There’s no doubt Flu will improve from last season’s near relegation. I think this going to be an extremely tight championship coming up, with about seven teams having a real chance to win the league.
