Parreira Optimistic about Ronaldo

May 23rd, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 16 Comments »

StarterParreira spoke to journalists today live from Weggis. Of course I was watching on TV and I was thinking about translating it all to this blog, but Tales Azzoni from the Associated Press was faster than me. From what I could find about this guy he is a fanatic for Brazilian issues. Just during May he wrote a lot of issues about our team and our players. Too bad I couldn’t find his profile… maybe he is Brazilian. Anyway, thanks Tales!

Parreira is optimistic about Ronaldo’s condition. Apparently he is completely fit, only needing to get match rhythm. He added “Two games will not give you the ideal rhythm, this will happen only during the tournament. He will improve during the tournament.” That’s a little scary, right? But we must keep faith.

Another thing optimistic Parreira said was that, after the medic exams are completed, the results would not be revealed. “Its confidential”… so the fact that Ronaldo is really fit is not official yet. He can be on the “perfect weight” but that doesn’t mean he is perfectly fit. Parreira is just guessing like everybody else.

Look at other stories by Tales Azzoni about our team:

About favoritism: “There’s no denying Brazil is heavily favored to win the tournament in Germany. The Brazilians acknowledge that — as do most of their opponents.”

About Ronaldinho: “Now (with) 26 and in his prime, Ronaldinho will enter the World Cup as the tournament’s biggest star.”

Ronaldo’s career: “Most Brazilian fans remain behind Ronaldo, as well. And there’s plenty of reason for that, because Ronaldo’s numbers with Brazil are more than impressive.”

About Kaka: “Kaka has turned into an indisputable starter for coach Carlos Alberto Parreira - and one of Brazil’s biggest weapons for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.”

For fans of the Brazilian players I recommend reading the complete articles. For the Brazilians… keep your faith!

Ronaldo better be good enough for the first game against Croatia because they are looking good. They just thrashed Austria 4 x 1 in Austria. And remember they beat Argentina not too long ago.

They have some good prep. matches before the opening game against us. Spain, Iran, and another team I can’t recall. I hope Parreira is doing his homework and observing those games.

Austria is not Brasil. Brasil is the champion. Brasil beat Argentina 2 times recently. Let us go with the facts -not dreams, amigo Celo. Brasil will be prepared for every opponent. Ronaldo is not the only player that can score. Brasil revolves around all it’s players. Gracias. And one more thing-Viva Brasil.

Euler. I’m gone a few days and come back to some really good posts. Nice writing. But I feel for you..you have been taking a beating in the comments. Keep up your composure, 16 days until all this talk will no longer matter and the players will make their own statements. Until then, you keep your team proud man….

Thanks Soze! I really appreciate your message. Thanks for the compliment!

Congrats on the Autrian game. I saw the goals and it was a little scary. 16 days… let’s wait for the real answers, right?

Hey Dino, you know we don’t speak spanish, right? Instead of ‘gracias’ you can also say ‘obrigado’ (Portuguese).

Thanks for your support, man! Be careful not to piss off the other teams so much. I end up getting the heat for that. Viva Brasil! :)

I can’t wait for the Brazil-Australia game. In fact, I’m hanging for the World Cup to start but for me, being in the World Cup, you want to play the best, and being able to play Brazil is a dream.
Go the Socceroos!

Nice, Martin!!! Thanks for your comment. Are you sure it is a dream, or is it a nightmare? He he he.

Who is going to use the yellow shirt? I hate when we play in blue.

Euler,

You know what, we always have green as our away shirt and this time we have blue. So either way, it’s gonna be blue and yellow.

How do they decide who gets home shirt in this case?

If Brazil play worse in the blue, then I vote Australia wear yellow!

I don’t know how they decide this matter. I hope we wear yellow too. In 1958 Brazil won the final against Sweden wearing blue, but other than that all games seems harder when we don’t use our Canarinho shirt. Let them toss the coin on that!

BRAZIL GIVEN COLOUR BOOST
Brazil have been given a colour boost. FIFA has announced that Carlos Alberto Parreira’s side will play all three of their Group F matches in their distinguished canary-yellow jerseys. The Seleção will kick-off their World Cup campaign against Croatia, using blue shorts and socks, but will don blue shorts and white socks for their second Germany 2006 outing against Australia. Finally, they will wear both white shorts and socks for their encounter with Japan.

also a question for Euler or the others lucky to see the practice; any free kicks from Roberto Carlos so far in practice? How does he like the ball to be used in the Cup? I can never forget the famous kick in France (Confederation Cup, I think) and then he did not like the ball used for the following Copa very much and could not replicate that much swing. I would like some of his super kicks as a change of pace with Ronaldinho’s tricky kicks. Pernambucano is probably the best but he will not be in the field all the time.

also for people discussing Perriera’s comments: not 100% ready does not mean the same as not ready. It does not mean a loss or even a draw. It just means not peaking too early but gaining momemtum at the right time in the tournament. The game against Croatia will be tricky still, but hopefully with no injuries and then Australia and Japan, no disrespect intended for them, may be a bit less threatning. I think Brasil is respecting every other team and from their interviews, the players are being very humble.

Sourav, Cheers for the clarification on colours, although I was hoping for us to wear the yellow instead of Brazil.

I too agree and think Brazil seem humble and this should only work in their favour. In terms of world football, Croatia does indeed feel entitled to second favourite in this group, then Japan then my boys. However, as in previous World Cups, one or two of the seemingly less threatning teams gets past the group stage.

I am hoping that this time it’s the Socceroos.

Martin, you are not contended with just being undisputed cricket champs anymore, yah? Your team is too bloody good in cricket and thrashes all the rest frequently (irrespective of the latest aberration in the Ashes). I like the way the Aussies give it all in sports and this football world cup, hopefully, you will win at least one game. If you could beat Uruguay, why not a upset? Just no messing with Brazil, ok?

I agree when Sourav say that “It just means not peaking too early but gaining momemtum at the right time in the tournament.” Parreira talks about it now and then.

About the ball, Roberto Carlos didn’t say anything about it yet, as far as I know. But I miss his super kicks too. Maybe the balls are too light and smooth, making it harder to give that curve effect he used to deploy.

Today at free kicks practice Juninho was the devil. He was far better than anyone else. Incredible!

Roberto broke a little piece of the artificial barrier with a potent kick.

Sourav, The last Ashes was a huge wake-up call that our cricketers needed. Sport, and I mean all sport, is in our blood.

But just like the cricket, it’s good to see more competitive matches. Who wants to win easy all the time? I am hoping that we carry our competitive edge into the World Cup and make the second round. Uruguay are no mugs and by beating them, means we can beat most teams.

Hey, if Brazil take care of Japan and Croatia for us, and we do the same, our game won’t matter!
