Player Profile: Cicinho
It was after the Confederations Cup (2005) that the European teams started to negotiate his departure from São Paulo FC. Great teams like Real Betis, Inter Milan, Juventus, FC Porto and Manchester United were hunting him, but the bigger than great Real Madrid got the prize. Cícero João de Cézare is 25 yeas old now and is one of the best right wingbacks I have ever seen in action.
I have been trying to watch every Real Madrid’s game to see our boys playing, but he is the one I admire the most. He defends, he attacks, he runs all around the field during the whole game, he serves with precision… he will be an important key player in our team. If violence is the way to stop Brazil, these are the legs you want to break. But don’t break them, please.
To play for Real Madrid he got an Italian citizenship trough his grandfather, since the Spanish club had all the EU outsiders’ slots taken. At that time he said: “My wish is to play at the highest level for Real Madrid, I’ll give my best to be admired in Spain as much as I am in Brazil”.
Some people asked: Cafu or Cicinho? Both, of course. But who should be the starter? I don’t care, really. Both have excellent abilities and skills. Maybe we should let Cafu be the starter for the 1st half time and Cicinho for the 2nd half. He has an interesting opinion about our defense being fragile: “That’s just a myth created by the press. The players we have up front are the ones that make this team exceptional although we also have one of the best centre-backs in the world in Lucio. We also have Roque Junior, Cafu, Roberto Carlos – they’re all well-respected players who play a big part in the team’s success. Their performances prove that Brazil is strong in other positions too.” (source)
He can score goals too! In his last season in São Paulo he scored 9 of them, becoming the second best scorer in the team that won the Libertadores da América and Toyota Cup. He said that Brazilians have offensiveness in their DNA, and that’s a good explanation to why we are so fanatics for attack.
