Player profile: Rogerio Ceni

Scoring Keeper Man, I think this guy isn’t going to Germany in July. Parreira likes Dida too much, so he is #1 in the goalkeeper list. Julio Cesar is the young man being prepared for the 2010 WC in South Africa. A much deserved position as the third choice in our Selection. Now, about the second man in the keep: Marcos is alright and he had his moment in 2002 WC. What about giving Rogerio Ceni a chance? He is as good as Marcos with his hands, but better with his feet.

He is the captain of the São Paulo team that in 2005 won the São Paulo State Championship, the Libertadores da América and the great Toyota Interclub Championship. He is so good with his feet that he hunting the goalkeeper scoring record, held today by José Luis Chilavert (Paraguay). As of 26th March 2006 he had scored 57 goals (40 from free kicks and 17 from penalty kicks), only 5 behind Chilavert.

Well, beyond that I already said a lot about this guy. He isn’t from Rio, where I live, but his skills worth every Brazilians’ attention. Now the former Pele team Santos is about to win the state championship again, but Rogerio Ceni’s team São Paulo is like a little stone on their shoes. May the best team win. May Parreira watch Rogerio Ceni in action to make a wise decision.

I would take Rogério as the third choice. I like him, but he is not the best brazilian GK as the São Paulo’s press keep saying. I would go with Dida too. Now is too soon to try a new goalie. RC had his chance before(agains Barcelona) but he was too arrogant to keep his position.

What are your thoughts on Dida? I’ve seen him be both brilliant and not so great. Do you think he is consistent enough?

Dida is good at saving close range shots e.g. penalties, but is terrible at saving long range efforts.

Dida is the most trustable choice now. The others goalie have no experience. However, is not mere coincidence that he was not among the 11 starter in the last 2 WC. He is one of the most capped player in Brazil but hasn’t been in one WC game. He is good but not great. He tends to fail in some very important games. If he is in a good moment he could be great, however, he is not. I only hope we do not depend on him.

Dida is brazil’s best keeper currently no doubt.
Euler have you done a profile on Kaka yet?? I a big fan of Ronaldinho but so many eyes will be on him this summer to perform, however i will bet Kaka will shine as well.
The guy is so skillful and is my most favourite brazilian player currently.

I’m watching Milan x Lyon and I’m worry. I’ve been watching Milan’s game lately and Dida is in a terrible moment. It reminds me that Brazilian TV commercial “Sai do Gol Dida”.

I am amazed with the amount of talent Brazil produce. If you think about it look how many brazilians fed up trying to break into the brazil team are representing other countries.

Theirs Dudu for croatia, Francileudo for tunisia, Deco for Portugal, Dos Santos/Mexico,Senna/Spain,Alex/Japan,Kuranyi/Germany.

Theirs probably a few more i am forgetting but their will be loads more brazilians in the future looking to represent other countries. The talent produced in Brazil is second to none.

Dida is great, just seems to be in a bad moment, but he’ll be OK for the WC. I still prefer Rogerio Ceni.

Sorry, weir, but Giovanni Dos Santos (and his younger brother Jonathan as well, for that matter) was born and raised in Mexico. He was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and although his father is brazilian (not sure about his mother) he grew up and went to school in Mexico, before going to Barcelona. I don’t think he has ever lived in Brazil, but he certainly isn’t and hasn’t been Brazilian.

Adding to my previous post, you do have a point, weir. Other Brazilian ex-pats have certainly played for the Mexican National Team in many tournaments, including the World Cup. Zague in the recent past, and in this Wolrd Cup Sinha might be wearing the green white and red. I also think there’s an ex-Brazilian in Tunisia’s national team.
