Player Profile: Ronaldo

February 22nd, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 10 Comments »

What can I say about him that you already don’t know? But I’ll try to make this interesting anyway. At the very beginning of his career (1990) he was trying to play for Flamengo, my beloved team here in Rio, but he couldn’t afford the bus fare and the team would not cover it. A talent scout took him to play for Cruzeiro at a neighbor state. If I knew then what I know now, I would pay from my own pocket the bus fare for him to play for Flamengo. Darn!

Amazing player! Three times World's best!!! (photo credit)

The rest is history. He went to Europe and did the damage that is now notorious to everyone. He played for PSV Eindhoven (94-96), Barcelona (96-97), Internazionale (97-02) and is currently playing at the great Real Madrid. He is 29 years old and he was born in a poor neighbourhood in Brazil. He is ugly as hell, but his girls are amazing. Good for him!

(ex-wife #1 / ex-wife #2 / new girlfriend)

The most notorious results? Dutch Cup 1996 (cool), Fifa World Player of the Year in 96, 97 and 02 (outstanding!), World Cup Title 1994 (not important), World Cup Title 2002 (very important), La Liga 2003 (respect!). Let’s not forget his personal history! He had convulsions before the 1998 final against France, affecting all our players. He had a very serious knee injury too, but he managed to put his act back together to blow Oliver Kahn twice at the 2002 final. Feels like Hollywood, but it was pure reality and will power. We’ll need him again in Germany!

Latest news? He is heart-broken because of the Real Madrid’s fans. He feels unappreciated after all he did for the team. Beckham is very talented, but in the last Real’s game I watched he did not delivered ONE good pass. He was Richy Rich mamma’s boy with neat manicure hoping to meet his blond mysterious mistress soon after the game. Raul did absolutely nothing. Zidane was resting by the bench while Ronaldo was still being criticized by the crowd at Bernabeu’s stadium.

His experience will be a very important ingredient to our team. For the Real Madrid fans I can say only this: pray not to face Ronaldo in Germany.

Call me a hater , call me watever u want but Ronaldo is washed up. He plays like hes bigger than the game. Once a guy gets his ego that big hes done. I am not at all denying that the guy is ridiculous with the ball and was an incredible scorer throughout his career but it doesnt look like he wants it anymore. He doesnt have that desire to be the best. One of my favorite forwards fancy wen he has to be and dirty wen he has to be.

Keep praying to be right, man. Maybe his ego is playing against him now but, when the yellow shirt comes, everyone changes. I hope for the best.

Ronaldo has one of the most powerful shots, burst of speed and ability to fool a goalkeeper that I have seen in my life. On top of that he has always been strong and is able to force his way in through defences. He was the best talent of his generation.

But the he is NO WAY close to what he could have become had he not decided to stay a fat, overpaid and obnoxious whining star with his mind more on girls than football!

But Deepen, every great player have this phase, unfortunately.

Anyway, one thing is playing for a club, another is playing for your country.

Our yellow shirt is powerful. But as the Pandora’s box, it can be good and it can be destructive at the same time.

I think Ronaldo as the wrong attitude since coming back from his two years of injury. He did a marvelous world cup, then turn his back on Inter and Moratti who have been backing and paying him huge salary to leave to Real. Not very nice for a man who is telling than he would like to win the Nobel price for Peace and complaining than the Real supporters don’t like after all the efforts he’s been doing to join the club ! What an effort that was to leave Inter to catch a fatter salary at Madrid.
His vanity would be his downfall and he would not be the star player this year for Brazil.

A torcida do Real Madrid deve mostrar-lhe consideração porque deu-lhes prêmios.

Aprilo Asanuma’s comment translated:
“Real Madrid’s supporters should show more consideration, because he brought awards and today he is the main scorer.

The blame goes to the coach that uses wrong strategies on the field.

Yes, the blame is coache’s and defender’s that are terrible, these are the real deservers of the ignorant Real Madrid’s fans aggressions.

Ronaldo can’t take the heat for the flaws of a team that have 11 people on the field.

If Ronaldo is to be blamed, so are the other players.

Television shows how they are all loosers!

Don’t blame Ronaldo, who brought more glory than you deserve.”
