Post-game Press Conference

June 18th, 2006 | By: Zé Fernando | 48 Comments »

Here’s some highlights from Parreira’s press conference after the game today, writing as I hear it:

  • * Parreira was pretty happy (which is a bit unusual for him, which’s usually very serious and angered at interviews).
  • * The first objective was achieved, which was getting into the next round. He hasn’t decided the team for the next game yet.
  • * Says: “Ronaldo played better than before. He must still play a bit more to pick up the pace”. He said “he’s getting fit now” in a very brazilian engrish.
  • * He said several times that much of the renewal on the team on the last 20 minutes was due to the fact that the new players were well rested.
  • * He called the wingers (Cafu, Roberto Carlos) “sensacional” (something like “magnificent”).
  • * He says Australia has good chances of qualifying for the next round.
  • * Doesn’t want to “choose” the next opponent; the team won’t play against Japan with the intention of losing.
  • * “Brazil doesn’t play with 11 men. It’s a team with 14, 15, 16 men.”

OHH BARZIL … i hope you finally realise that your finished and that it waill take you 30 years to win a WC again (just like it happned after pele won the last WC wid brazil) Ronaldo is sofat and slow .. finished .. Rohnaldhino has been playing bad for 6 months and will have a bad tournament .. Adriano .. lazy and slow .. (i guess what Veron said about him was true) Carlos .. runs around to much and in the second half cant run any more (to old) and then you got edmilsons replacemnet whos real bad and ze robert is nothign special … the only thing brazils got going for them is Kaka … i fell sorry for him .. Brazil will go out in second round to eithe Ghana or Italy. Just like what happned in 1982!!!!!!

Brasil didn’t play that great in ‘94 but they got it done… Anyone counting them out this early in the tournament is a fool. Look at the roster carefully and then add up all of the years of experience they have. They will step up and win, whether it’s ugly or beautiful. The trick is to peak at the right time, and the first round isn’t the time to do so. This isn’t Parreira’s first trip either, so stop complaining and let’s support our team. By the way, all you who can’t stop complaining about Ronaldo’s weight, look in the mirror.

Once again I state that I am a big Argentina fan but we want to thumb are nose at Europe and have a south american final but honestly right now Ecuador looks more like a finalist than brasil. Say what you want about Argentina but they look good. Serbia lost 1 to 0 against a highly regarded Holland and were destroyed by Argentina. Ivory coast is better than any team in Brasil group and had a bad draw by playing Holland and Argentina. Brasil is lucky to have such an easy group and maybe this gives them a chance to make changes so they can get to the final. All Brasilians should be happy you have such any easy group and mayeb you will wake up. Good luck against Italy or Ghana! Also tell yours guys to pass the ball instead of holding it so much. The problem is that no one has the energy to run much of the ball so there is no one to pass it to.

I am from Argentina and I like southamerican football, but I think Brazil is not going to be in the final match; this team should have been renewed and it hasn’t; what a pitty we can’t enjoy the fantastic lessons of football we were used to; Argentina vs Brazil would have been a wonderful final match!

i dont think ronaldo is fat, him just being a lazy mofo playing just with his name… him is there and parreira is letting him play just so brazil can have a player to get his name in history if him score more 3 gols, not a hard task to do with a such good team full of talents, but it will be hilarious if him dont make it, everyone is playing for him to make these gols…

i can make a bet with everyone right now, if brazil dont start to win these matches from now on with 3 gols or more and gols without doubt, brazil will not win this WC and same thing for argentina, if they dont, it will be an Euro team for sure.

Ronaldo should be out.

This should be abundantly clear from the match.

Either Fred, Juninho or Robinho can start depending on the tactical situation.

Carlos Perrera, are you hearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

And seriously everyone needs to relax on poor Ronaldo.. he is definitely not the only player that is not playing like the great Seleção..
I still have faith though, it seems many of the top teams are having a rough start..I hope and I pray we see the best of the Seleção and the best of Ronaldo again..

I’ll make a prediction right here in the Brazilian blog.

Argentina will win this year’s World Cup, without a doubt.

All teams look ordinary but Argentina is simply OUT OF THIS WORLD!

And I am not Argentinean, I AM KENYAN.

While almost everyone is trying to score goals (and this includes Argentina as well), Argentina is playing beautiful football.

THese guys move like a well oiled machine and don’t seem to force it. They have the cohesion, have quick, short, shrewd and crisp passes and they are in sync!

That is what football is.

Brazil had a great team in 2002. Today, they can only yearn for those days. Your game against Croatia was lucklustre. It was lackadaisical and I’ll not talk about your hero Ronaldo.

Game 2 against Australia was quite good. You improved. Let’s hope that like wine, you get better with age.

Personally, I’d love a Brazil/Argentina final and obviously, as a fan since 1986, I’ll be rooting for Argentina as usual.
Theirs is more than a soccer team. It is football clinic. It is byuuutifuuuuul!

Good luck!

Refereeing was a big snag to small and unprivelleged nations in the 2006 World Cup. Higher penalties should be devised to deter poor refereeing in big competitions. For Example Africans look at Brazil-Ghana match as one of the vivid examples of poor refereeing geared towards favouring big NAMES at the expense of poor Africans. What a Shame!
