I think he won our respect and admiration. Mainly when he won the 1994 World Cup. He was great! After 24 years without a title, he called the responsability to himself, saying that if Brazil fails, we all could blame him. He's put his ass on the line and brought the trophy.

He is the man. But some things he do and say are working against his image. Malandro is not such a bad thing to be, if you don't disrespect other people. Most Brazilians have a little 'malandragem' inside that helps us in the daily problems. But Romario is starting to believe that he is above everybody else. That's sad.

The fact is, he is great, we love him, but now he must understand that the main stage is the World Cup and he cannot be there. It is the time for other players to shine.

His great victory was 12 years ago. His glory is in our hearts but also in the past.

Nice post, Euler. Is Romario's 'malondro' status why he never (or so it seems to an outsider) won over the Brazilians like some other players who have accomplished as much as he?
