Ronaldo to Flamengo?
No. Unfortunately he won’t come in the near future. When he was just a kid he wanted to play for his (and mine) team of heart, the “Rubro Negro” (red and black), the “Urubu” (black vulture), the mighty Flamengo. Now he is under heavy attack by Real’s fans and the media in general. Flamengo’s football manager called him and offered a place in the team… what are the chances? None.
Flamengo said he could come anytime he wants, but to do so Ronaldo would have to be as certain as Romario was when he left Barcelona to play for Flamengo. He would have to cut his relations with Real Madrid once and for all. Now, how would someone exchange the filthy rich position at the Spanish galactic team for a Brazilian club that is struggling to pay its players salaries? Not only that, but who would pay the contract breach fine? Here in Brazil no club has 100 million Euros to infringe that contract!
Ronaldo answered very politely, that playing for Flamengo is still his life’s dream, but for the moment he has business commitments to attend. We saw an exclusive interview (Globo TV) in his mansion in the company of his son Ronald, the only unconditional love he looks for in these dreadful moments. He said some strange things, like how this generation has the opportunity to overshadow the 70’s Selection. Oh, I’m gonna hear a lot for this, but remember that Ronaldo is the one burping this opinion, not me.
Well, I wasn’t born yet in 1970, so I can only hope and dream to see another legendary generation emerging from Germany. The 94 and 02 titles aren’t enough to do that. For that to become true Brazil needs to win the Cup again and Ronaldinho must perform the best show ever displayed between the lines of the green field. If that happen I will be able to say that this generation is as great as Pele’s.
Flamengo, keep dreaming! I know I will.
