Scolari: From London to Uzbekistan

June 9th, 2009 | By: Duvel | No Comments »

Luiz Felipe Scolari has landed an unexpected new job for Uzbek club Bunyodkor. He will be reunited with former Brazil star Rivaldo who is playing for the club at the age of 37. This is a bit of a surprise to see Scolari land here, and I am sure he was given a substantial sum of money. Rivaldo is reported to be making more than €5 million at the club. The length of the contract is only 18 months.

The question is going to be asked, why this job and why not a return to Brazil? Two reasons: 1) All the big league clubs that have made coaching changes have already appointed new managers. 2) Brazilian clubs are notorious for hiring and firing mangers, with 35 coaching changes taking place last year. This job will undoubtedly give him more cash and security while he waits for a bigger job to come along.
