Seleção in Weggis - Switzerland

May 22nd, 2006 | By: Euler Costa | 12 Comments »

The Seleção is in Switzerland now. All players are already in the luxury Park Hotel Weggis, an incredibly rich five star hotel near lake Lucerne, with a little beach that one must be crazy to dive in. The city of Weggis is all filled with green and yellow while the black Porsches slowly slide up and down the calm streets of the neighborhood. But all their peace and quiet is already gone. Many people are dancing in the streets and there will be some Brazilian music performances to shake their rear ends.

500kmOne interesting fact is that the players were in different places, so they went to Switzerland in different ways. Many arrived by plane, which is very natural, but some of them decided to drive all the way to Weggis, a few because it was close enough, but Fred said he was showing the beautiful landscape to his father. From Lyon to Weggis, how many kilometers are talking about? Of course I would have done the same.

Now before they begin training, the players will have that full checkup to see what kind of training program each will have to work on. They have a great health lab there and soon the Seleção will be on the Swiss pitch. They have sold out all the training tickets in one day. Of course the place is very small, with capacity to hold 5.000 fans in each practice session.

The Brazilian with the most intense job right now is the chef Artur Silva. He will be training the cooks to prepare the right food for the team. He is very happy with his job. “It was a great surprise for me. I was impressed with the simplicity of the players. They seem very modest, but the guy that really called my attention is Ronaldinho. He is always smiling! They never complained about my food. I’m very lucky to be among such simple people” he said.

I’ll keep playing in the lottery. Maybe someday I’ll travel to Weggis too.

The best news during the first day of our seleção in Europe was delivered by Dr. Runco(team’s doctor). He said that the group is in better shape this year than before the 2002 World Cup. He specifically mentioned that Ronaldo is healed and will pratice with the rest of the group on wednesday.

Is anybody else surprised that the Brazilians are there so early? If I was a Brazil fan, I’d be happy about that.

The fact that we’re there so early means that WE ARE NOT PLAYING AROUND. WE ARE GOING TO WIN THIS WC!

Viva Brasil!!!

That’s right. You guys had better not play around this year. There is no room for that in Europe.

For sure, I am disapointed by what Pele said about himself (”God made mozart, michellangelo, he also made pelé”). I didn’t know it, in Fact very few people have seen pele playing, anyway at his time football was less physical, players needed less stamina and in brazil particulary, defenses did not exist, so the 1000 goals are a legend and are not to compare with (for example) Batistuta’s 355 goals in 600 matches against the toughest defences in Serie A. In brazilian league in the sixties, with 1300 games (like pelé) for sure he would have scored as much as pelé(1284). If you compare the average goal per game in the serie A in the 90’s 1.7 and the avg in brazil 60’s : 3.8 , Batigol would have scored 1584 goals…..
Pelé played in his country ONLY, he won world cups near great players. At the time there was much less young men trying to get professional because there was much less money, the level of play was LOW. Don’t lie to yourself, pelé is a fine talker who managed very well his carrer after his player carreer. He’s a politic man, he was good at HIS time. He profits there was very few game to watch on TV at the time, the absence of proof and witness allowed him to build the cleanest appearence, it’s very easy to proclam himself “the king” while nobody had attented (or so few) the games he played.
He seems a manipulator with a way to communicate who make us remember the dictators.
Even Ronaldo does not enjoy pelé.

Is this a campaign against Pele? Before the World Cup I’ll write the reasons why he is the King. You, Wam, is not well informed about him and the numbers surrounding his career. Today he is losing his cool, saying strange things all the time, but when it comes to football, that’s another matter entirely.

O Rei, O Rei, O Rei - always Pele.

Euler, I’ll leave it to you to address the superiority of Pele, but if you need any help (which I doubt) please know that I am available for support. Be patient with him. Misinformation is a terrible thing.
