South American Sub 17

April 16th, 2009 | By: Duvel | 5 Comments »

In Chile tomorrow the South American U-17 Championships begins. Brazil faces Paraguay at 7:00 eastern time. They play Monday and Thursday, at the same time against Peru and Colombia. GolTV is showing all the matches of this tournament and it’s an opportunity to see some of the starts of the future for the national team. The complete fixture list can be found here. Neymar is the most notable in this group of players. He is featuring for Santos already, and has been billed as the next Robinho, perhaps even better.

Correction: Credit to Samuel at Bleacher Report, but Neymar was not released for this tournament. An updated list of players can be found here. Goal.com stinks by the way, that’s where the previous roster came from.

Here is the roster going to Chile:

Goal: Luis Guilherme (Botafogo), Alisson (Internacional).

Defense: Gerson (Gremio), Sidimar (Atlético Mineiro), Mauricio (Sao Paulo), Leonardo (Internacional), Crystian (Vila Nova), Jéferson (Sao Paulo), Romário (Vitoria), Dodó (Corinthians).

Midfield: Elivelton (Santos), Fernando (Gremio), Joao Pedro (Atlético Mineiro), Wellington (Fluminense), Coutinho (Vasco), Zezinho (Juventude).

Forward: Willen (Vasco), Felipe (Internacional), Marcelo (Atlético Paranense).

Thanks for shedding some light on the U-17 W.C Duvel. im optimistic about this team and I recognized a few names. there is some speculation however on Neymar inclusion to this squad. I think Santos hasnt released or he wasnt called up, something along those lines. if you can please clarify it because i looked into Globo but my Portuguese skills werent efficient enough to give me a clear understanding. Him & Coutinho will be fundamental to that teams success.

i meant U-17 SA tournament not W.C, but Duvel isnt Felipe Coutinho the kid that signed with Inter to rival Pato, or is that deal off because Brazil’s age limitation on transfers?

Samuel, thanks for the Neymar catch. There hasn’t been much published about this tournament so I was using one of the few rosters I found. As far as Coutinho goes, he was bought by Inter, but is on loan to Vasco until next June.
