The Adriano Breakdown

April 7th, 2009 | By: Duvel | 53 Comments »

Update 4/10: Credit to Bruno at See the Cup for posting this on the comments, I was traveling for the Easter holiday yesterday. Adriano has announced that he is going to take a break from playing football completely.

I did not want to post about this topic until the facts were somewhat sorted out. In case you have not heard, following the Peru match, Adriano did not return to Italy. There were numerous conflicting reports about his whereabouts. Dunga said that he did not even know that Adriano never went back to Italy until it became news.

Adriano spent days in Rio in a favela and with family. There were rumors of drug use, which appear not to be true. It was reported that he was upset Inter Milan did not give him permission to stay in Brazil to deal with personal matters. The personal matter appears to be a breakup with his girlfriend. Regardless, this is likely the last straw for Adriano at Inter. Jose Mourinho was already not keen on Adriano. Mario Balotelli had surpassed him in Inter’s starting XI before this happened, and this will likely be the nail in the coffin for him with the club. It’s been an extraordinary fall from grace from the Adriano of the 2005 Confederations Cup. Who knows where he will go from here? He is supposed to return to Inter for the rest of the season after Easter, but when the Serie A season is complete where his next destination is anyone’s guess. If I’m Dunga I am not calling this player come June. Can we get a Keirrison call up please?

I don’t think Adriano will be happy unless he’s playing somewhere in Brazil. He seemed his happiest when Inter loaned him out to Sao Paolo. Maybe the best move for him is to return to a team in Brazil, where he’ll be able to be with his family and friends and won’t have the pressures he had at Inter.

I agree with Samuel, provided R9 gets back some match fitness it would b great 2 hav him 2010.
to RO i must say Adriano had been playing top level football in europe for quite some time and like every other proffesional should always avoid having his private life interfere with his work so badly… its stil not crystal clear wat caused th breakdown, but if it realy is his girlfiend – i tell u women do leave at odd times… imagine this happend a year later, a day before brazil meets france in the world cup semi final to be played at FNB stadium jorburg… adriano takes to the bottle in camp… his pals dinho and rbinho at th sight of th bottle give in to temptation, much againt kaka’s advice… dunga seeing that all is lost joins the trio… inocent young pato sees his icon go amock and gives in 2 ‘peer pressure’ DISASTER!!! many other big names have had a couple breakups eg ronaldo with a kid in between… Well, you may stil be right about adriano geting back. but Ro, lets not count it…

lol @Hena, I’d cry at the sight of that happening plus im mad you mentioned Pato giving in to peer pressure also, he’s too innocent & I agree with you Ro on Adriano maybe playing with a team in Brazil.. he says he’d like Fluminese but like Hena here said He should not feature for the Selecao come 2010.

I am a full blooded Milan supporter, & im a regular at acmilan.theoffside.com you should join the blog. just like Duvel Gian is a very impressive writer. and about the Ferbenache Offer i think Adriano has a depression or loneliness problem so moving all the way to Turkey would only increase his problems. but being so far away from the constant pressures of the press may prove to bee good for him in the long run.

I have made a blog myself. It reflects on Hulk’s career so far. Also, talks about Fabio and Rafael Check it out :

nice blog Joel, but im getting the impression that your a Manchester United fan, i admire & respect the red devils but im not a fan. C.Ronaldo and Ferguson have such horrible personalities that i cant even withstand the thought of supporting them or any team they play for. Porto for the upset tommorow! I predict a well fought 1-1 draw with Porto moving on because of away goals.

Sorry its taking me so long to reply to these comments, I’ve been out of town until today. First, Joel nice blog. When you post comments on this site or any other make sure to type in the URL under website, that way people can just click on your name to check out the blog. Second, Samuel you should do the same so people can check out your Bleacher Report stuff.

Outside of this Adriano story its been a slow week, I will have a new post tomorrow or Wednesday. Globo did a piece on Marseille forward Brandao wanting to play for the national team…thats how slow of a week its been.

Actually I am a Liverpool fan. I try to ignore personalities of footballers. As alot of them can be arrogant, I look at how good they are. If Porto win it be a major shock. Brandao is a good choice. He has moved to Marseille and has netted 4 goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances. I would prefer Hulk though. It just seems he has more talent and potential.

thanks Duvel, @Joel Brown.. sometimes personality is just too hard to overlook. which is why guys like C.Ronaldo & Inter Ballotelli are so hardly admired.

Liverpool have been scoring of late in the Premier League and coming back in ties for years. It is possible. If Gerrard is not playing and not playing to the best of his ability I cannot see Liverpool winning. Basically, we need Gerrard to beat Chelsea. He works so well with Torres, great motivator and a really good captain. Chelsea are definitely favourites to win and proceed to the semis. It will be a good game though regardless of the result.

Nice blog JOEL, i must admit i hav never realy followd hulk that much mainly because donot concider the portgese liga as a top european league. this is simply bcause despite having a good side like porto it is full of ‘low class’ teams eg maritimo… i feel hulks national selection must hinge largely on his performance agaist th big guns ie man u, aserno… ill b closely watching him tonight

Thanks :) I feel if Hulk can score a really good strike Dunga will pick him. Looks bad for L’pool now 3-2 to Chelsea. And L’pool where 2-0 up at half time. Only needing 1 more goal to win the tie :(

Joel, i know you guys did not move on but that game was definately one of the best games I’ve lived to witness. the performance of both teams was extraordinary and the goalscoring was relentless. Liverpool just never give up!

(i meant gave up) I agree with you that Gerrard was missed but ‘Pool might of won had he been included from the start. Respect to Chelsea who played fantastic football over both legs but i still doubt they’ll be capable of ousting Barcelona in the Semi’s. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Eto’o & Henry are way too much for Chelsea to handle. I just hope Porto are up to it for tommorow, lets oust United & end the Quadruple dream.

Nice article Samuel, i agree with many of your points… but i strongly feel carlotti should either take a very hardline stance on the player he wants Galli to buy, or he must simply be replaces with a manager that will do so… we saw real madrid do so 2006 their new manager got rid of alot of big fish( a good # ended up at milan). and no carlotti is not like alx furgie, we alex did go a couple of seasons without any big win, but during those years he was building a sqd of youngstrs… during our bad years we hav put togethr a sqd of pensioners!!
