Video of the Day: Santos

Santos won a Copa do Brasil match Wednesday over minnows Naviraiense 10-0. They have scored 44 goals in 15 matches with Robinho and Neymar leading the attack.

Robinho told the press that going to Brazil “was the right choice…I’m good physically and mentally. I hope to continue like this until the end of my spell at Santos. Where I have to be happiest is within the four lines of the pitch, and this is happening.” Regarding his desire to stay at the club on a permanent basis he stated, “I intend to continue for long. I hope that the board is already addressing this issue. You just have to look at my face to see my desire to stay at the club.”

if Adriano goes to the World Cup, i will never forgive Dunga! what a hypocrite... he better end up taking Pato instead.

Gawd I can't get one right! hahaha

That was a great great match, and ultimately good for both sides: Palmeiras shrugs off their huge crisis and Santos' kids get a slap in the face that serves nicely as a reality check.

But the most amazing moment of the weekend wasn't Armero's pretty pretty dance moves(!) or Robert's fairy tale, but ROBERTO CARLOS' F'ING INCREDIBLE GOAL. Aah, I'm so glad I root for Corinthians :)
  • don't forget I will have a special Corinthians blog tomorrow. Robert Carlos with another GREAT GOAL!!!!! and Ronaldo beats a defender ont he run?!?!!!

    I told you Vic :D

Santos showed immaturity and vulnerability. noone saw Armero aka the worst player on Palmeiras's squad getting 2 assists and a hattrick by Robert???!!! his last goal to seal the win was just a fairy tale ending. neymar meltdown and gets a red. and finally Palmeiras win the dance off between them and Santos :D

Adriano also beats his critics with an impressive performance tonight. and with his shirt saying, "God forgive all the evil people" which is aiming towards people like us and media alike for saying he is back to his depressing form and etc...

    great day!!

Great to see Robinho is enjoying himself and having something of a rennaisance. If he's in good form come June, our attack is in great shape.
  • Vic
"team that can easily beat you on the counter like Palmeiras"

That's the great thing about this Santos side: it's really hard to beat them on the counter, their midfield is too nimble and fast. Paulo Henrique and Marquinhos can return very quickly to help Arouca. Also, Wesley can support the attack but also fall back at lighting pace. I still believe that, for this squad,, attack is the best form of defence.

In time: The starting 11 for tomorrow: Felipe; Wesley, Edu Dracena, Durval e ParĂ¡; Arouca, Marquinhos e Paulo Henrique Ganso; Neymar, Robinho e AndrĂ©.
  • yea best option against second rate minnows such as this team in Naviraiense, but against a big team that can easily beat you on the counter like Palmeiras...very unlikely.

If Santos fail to meet expectations in the final 3rd. that 5 man attacking formation will backfire big time, and believe me Diego Souza, Cleiton Xavier and Ewerthon (ex- Zaragoza) can all beat you on a counter...
  • Vic
well talk about mouth-foot situations hahaha... I just skimmed through the posts and read WC in the first one... based on the last posts, I figured that this was the theme. Oh well. You live you learn right lol

Back to Santos, I think that full-on attack is the best way for them to play. Their defence, as Hector mentioned, isn't that great, so relying on the creativity and passing of the frontmen does seem like the best option.

ha nobody besides u has mentioned ronaldinho vic
  • ...my post was on Santos...unless you are over-generalizing.

Santos are said to field 5 attackers in the derby this week against Palmeiras... we'll see if it'll benefit or backfire because I do not count Arouca as a reliable DM at all.

I find it quite amusing that whatever the post is about, the discussion always boils down to Ronaldinho vs Dunga. Come on guys, it looks like no-one even reads the posts!

Also, that Santos attack is easily one of the 5 best in the world right now, pure class and flair. They play so effortlessly it annoying haha. I'm a corinthiano, but many bows are in order for this incredible passing side.
  • I think Santos play Remo in the next round of Copa Do Brazil. I can expect the same to happen to poor Remo :(

    Well put Miguel! Clever observation!

Hello my dear Brazilian friends. I am from Mexico and I've always admired and respected your country and of course your beautiful football....and girls hehe. Although I've to admit that I follow the Dutch national team hehe.

I think Brazil is the #1 candidate to win the trophy. Brazil failed in 2006 and they want revenge this time, Dunga doesn't want stars he wants players who play with balls he also has selected the same players for about 4 years now I think so they know each other very well the team has glued and I see them as the most exciting team for the WC 2010. Spain will learn how to play if they face your nation!!!.

Take care my friends and saludos from Mexico.

i've heard somewhere that Leonardo will take over the team after the World Cup. i hope this happens, he believes in attacking football and has even gotten an aging AC Milan to play some attractive soccer this season. imagine him coaching Brazil with the good energetic young legs we have. a 4-3-3 with Robinho-Fabiano-Pato next year! Maicon bombarding the flanks. O Samba! but AC Milan are not keen on releasing him so we're doomed. but on a serious note who will be replacing Dunga? and about that Santos game, 10 goals... who were they playing againts my local high school?
