Why is Brazil such a talent breeder?

Of course there is no single reason, but we can list some factors. I believe football is a sport of the common people since you don’t need expensive material to practice. Brazil is a poor country so most children don’t have much opportunity to play other sports.

The foundation of the sport is the passion of the children for the action. Is a great activity to improve the bonding experience for the kids and it grows in our hearts. A great example is Ronaldo. He comes from a very poor community, where the kids play in the street. The goal can be made with your shoes or with a pair of bricks. So when you drive by these areas you see children playing all around. It’s too many people playing every single day. Romario is another good example.

The big teams are always scouting these new talents in very big tests. When the parents know about the kid’s talent they encourage their career. That’s the most probable reason why we are such great exporters of football players.

Another great reason is success itself. After Pele, Tostão and Rivelino in 1970 the country was proud to display that kind of talent, so the interest on the game became absolutely huge! Their generation reminded Brazilians that we could compete anywhere (like Senna did) carrying our flag and our hearts. Now whenever the World Cup begins the country stops. We bite our nails off in every game. Robinho is our latest discovery. So young! I’ll get old and die before we stop playing the samba style that keeps our Selection so fun to watch.

[...] “The other thought or question is – why is the skill level of Brazil a step above the rest of the world? There is something about them that allows them as a whole, player after player, generation after generation, to create play that no one else can. They don’t always win, but it just seems the players from Brazil can elevate the play above all others – the game can be just moving along and brazil seem to maintain possession and then all of a sudden make three long passes and a quick run or two and score. They can do things others can’t – why? How?” … (my theory) [...]
