8 and Counting..

July 17th, 2007 | By: Ali Alarab | 14 Comments »

Hi everyone and welcome back to this Blog, my name is Ali, and i will be a new blogger for the brazilian football. I have been a fan of the Samba since i was Born, i guess it’s Genetics or something.. and here I am honoured by the moderator of this site to be one of the bloggers in this Brazilian page. welcome everyone..

ok, where to start? that’s an easy question. The thoughts are racing thru my mind, one day ago we won the copa america for the 8th time since it was established in 1916. 4 wins came in the last 10 years 97, 99, 04, 07, that’s pretty amazing isn’t it..! and hopefully we will keep counting in years to come.

I want to talk a little about this last copa america. We arrived in venzuela as champions of the last edition beating argentina in the final on penalties after employing what was considered as a B team. and as much as I know the team that our now-beloved coach Dunga brought to this copa america was not any better..!
we kicked off by losing to mexico 2-0 and God knows how Dunga and the rest of the team were feeling.. Everything seemed to be going wrong at that time. And at that point there’s only one thing that we held on to.. Faith.

Faithful and loyal to the Yellow and Blue colours, the young, Hungry Boys, cruised to the final, beating chile, ecuador, chile again, uruguay, and it felt like a long pause before that final.. It was coming ARGENTINA.. AGAIN.

It was a Clash of the Soccer Titans, it was Yellow vs. blue, Samba vs. Tango, It was the Hot favourites vs. the Underdogs, the likes of Messi, tevez, Riquilme, Aimar, veron, vs. what seemed to be only Robinho.. It was the ODDS vs. Us.. We against the World.. But we are proud of who we are.. At least we had our pride in our side..

Argentina with a team that was superior to the previous one that lost to brazil in the last edition, facing a Brazilian team that was also less acknowledged than the one who BEAT them last time..
It was their REVENGE attitude vs. our HISTORY.. They wanted to mess with our history.. it hurt

“no body messes with brazil, 5 times world champions“, Parriera after last copa america. and he was right…

And they wouldn’t mess.. not even their Idol ‘messi‘ could ‘mess‘ and here we are, driven by our pride, came victorious once again, and we added another chapter to our history. And most importantly, we sent a message to the world that we are brazil, it doesn’t matter if we line our top team or pick a team from the street.. we are the best and will forever be…

Welcome back Selecao Fans, with this new group of brazilian players, and kaka and ronaldinho coming back, we have alot to talk about, and alot to laugh and be happy about.. and we start here, at this blog, that belongs to the best team in the WORLD

Ali.

The Argentine blog is funny. They think they are way better than Brazil and that Brazil playes defensive football.

LOL. I love to make fun of them by praising them!

I guess Dunga’s biggest achievement was to forge a tactical compliance attitude in the players and to have them played without the ball in a way that has been atypicalli brazilian I mean, brazilians always know what to do with the ball but without it that has been a rather different story and then while Riquelme disappeared Alves showed up in a magnificent manner and all across Europe Alves’ name resonates to the tune of $18 million euros…..One crucial moment was the save by Doni, it demoralized the argentinian forwards who with sparce opportunities found themselves lost in a magnificent defensive wall and then a last line goalie . I guess we’ll see more of Alves in the future and Julio Baptista has staked a strong claim to a regular place in the team so who will be left out? Ronaldinho or Kaka? Thus far the odds are that Kaka will be back but Ronaldinho has been disappointing and this win has been a pie in his face because he resented sitting on Dunga’s bench and played the absence card in a losing hand. I would expect the return of Ronaldo who seems to be highly motivated to get back to top form and end his career in a high note. Other returns are Ze Roberto and Lucio so all in all things are looking interesting on the brazilian side.

I feel bad for Argentina because they do have great players and they deserve better but somehow it seems that they play too much on the “us” versus Brazil mentality than to simply win for their own sake. It’s an ongoing rivalry more from the argentinian side than the brazilian one as I find more confidence and a sense of “self-recognition” in the brazilians who basically take it for granted that the team should win. I like to relate this to Mohammed Ali who having experienced defeat is the one recognized as the greatest boxer of all times. That is what Brazil is to the world at large, Brazil is soccer and the love affair of the world with Brazil is a strange one that Argentina should stop trying to mimic or counteract.

Hi everyone,
Thank you Euler for your Welcome message, it was really nice of you.. you know i wanted to contact you so we get to know each other and help drive this post, but i am busy myself, just to give you a peice of info about me, I’m 23 and i am a medical student at the university of jordan for science and technology- Jordan..
i try to use my free time and dedicate it to follow brazilian soccer since i am a diehard fan.

Mane, i like what you said about Dunga style.. to be honest with you, i’d rather a Pragmatic coach who can win trophies than having to play the most beautiful soccer and loose.. look what happened to argentina for instance, they played pretty soccer and they fell to tears in the end.. This is life, and this is football, 50 years from now they will say brazil outclassed argentina in the copa final.. and believe me that we still play beautiful soccer. As you said, there’s still room for KAKA, -the God-sent Gift from heaven, best player in the world and our new history.. I just can’t wait to watch him fit in this team..
imagine the team that played the final
Maicon-Alex-juan-Gilberto
Josue–Miniero
and KAKA
it will be magnificent, KAKA drving to the opponents goal is special when he’s got those holding his back.. i think there’s Room for Ronaldinho to excel on the left wing as he used in Barca, i just wish he elevates his game a bit for the NT…
and most importantly, i want to see RONALDO back, i said it and i will keep saying it forever.. He is my ALL-TIME FAVOURITE and he will be back in shape, for dunga’s call…

funny you brazilians only post something when you win. How about posting when you lost again mexico or about being disqualified from the Sub20 cup?

hot, I guess that for whatever the reason this blog is not popular with brazilians but if you go to other blogs such as
http://forums.soccerfansnetwork.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=125
you will find plenty of activity.

I guess the difference with brazilians is that they complain or celebrate for a couple oh hours because they see it as natural to win and if they lose then they brush it off and say NEXT!!
No pun intended and I do enjoy the other teams but they fall in a different mentality altogether. Had Argentina, Uruguay won you can bet that they would relish on that win for months because they succeed at a less rate than Brazil and if Mexico had won then the ripple effect would have gone on for years.

I have to be frank here, I don’t like Ronaldinho when he plays in the NT, he is mediocre there and I like Dunga’s attitude of not caring about name recognition or fame I mean, if a player wants to play for the NT then said player ought to give his best period. If they will be there just to fulfill their marketing commitments with sponsors then screw them.

I expect Dunga will build upon this team. The defense played solidly and it will only improve with the return of Lucio. It’ll be interesting if Pato and Nilmar will have room in the team as they are developing.

The brazilian tale: What do all of these countries have in common? Azerbaijan,Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina,Bulgaria,Chile, Cost Rica,Croatia,Germany,Honduras,Hong Kong,Hungary,Italy,Japan,Macedonia, Mexico,Portugal,Singapore,Spain,Trinidad and Tobago,Tunisia,Turkey,USA…..They all have used naturalized brazilians in their NT during the past decade!!
Last time I checked the list was a total of 800+ professional brazilian players around the world.

Julio Baptista can play defensive midfield. He
could also play strong safety in the NFL.
Ronaldinho could easily replace Wagner Love
in any case - easy to shuffle roles to
accomodate the switch. Ze Roberto appears
gone for good - although he is great with the barber’s shears and Anderson and Vagner Love could certainly use a lot of trimming.

Why replace Wagner Love with Ronaldinho? What has Ronaldinho done to deserve being called to the NT? I am so disappointed with Ronaldinho…..Yes, he is a great player -with Barcelona- but for Brazil he lacks the heart that people like Wagner Love has shown so why put him back in? I’d rather lose with players who put their heart into it than with prima donnas like the way Ronaldinho acted in the last WC.

Congrats Brazil for the win!

I have a question, is it not just a formality that Ronaldo is done for the NT? He is almost 31 years old, will there be a Copa before 2010? If not I would think its time for Ronaldo to hang up his boots, if not they will be hung for him.
