Against Algeria?

August 23rd, 2007 | By: Euler Costa | 7 Comments »

Brazil won… 2-0. While other great national teams are really testing themselves, we play against nº 73 in the Fifa ranking. Even worse: with the team that won the Copa America we didn’t score anything. Only during the second half, with Kaka and Ronaldinho, our team started to play. But just between you and me… lame.

At least the next 2 friendlies are significant. USA and Mexico have been representing well their nations for a while now, mainly Mexico, which is a hard bone to gnaw for the Brazilian side (remember 2005 Confederations Cup and 2007 Copa America). The American team didn’t win against us from 2000 to this day (3 encounters) while the Mexicans won 5 times since then (in 8 encounters)… an amazing record.

These friendlies are cool and fun to watch, but the really important stuff will only begin with the classifying games. Being Brazil such a footballistic nation, we must keep alive the record of competeing in all World Cups, since the creation of the competition in 1930. That is serious stuff.

I noticed that Dunga changed the lineup a little bit for USA. Lucas is not playing.

He is still very young. Until 2010 I believe he may be in.

As Mexican, I can tell you that Brazil will be coming very hard on us, especially bringing Kaka, and Ronaldinho!!! I just can’t wait to see this game. I don’t know about Mexico because they are not bringing Carlos Salcido, Pavel Pardo, Ricardo Osorio, and Neri Castillo. Unless someone else got another story on this?

Hey Euler - remember me? Dan from Cardiff California, the old brazilian fan form 1970? I have dream - I was trying to write you after the 06 loss to france but it hurt so bad that I never sent the e-mail. My dream is to come to Brazil and watch the 2014 cup and go to the final with you!! my friend… what do you think? I will be 54 by then - did I tell you I play a lot of classic Bossa Nova guitar? Back to football…I really enjoyed the Copa america- I was able to watch every match on GolTV here in the US but my Globo International channel stopped showing the national teams games after the Chile friendly in March. What happened? I would like to follow the qualifications for 2010 but am not sure what station if any will show it here. Any ideas why Globo stopped showing the national team here in the US? How do you watch the team in Brazil - is there only on channel that shows the matches or many?
I watched Barcelona this weekend and in one camera shot there was an Argentina national, Decco from Portugal, Ronaldinho - brazil,, Henry , france and one of the Italian defense players - how can these guys all play together and then try to kill each other in world cup? Henry and Ronaldinho hugging each other made me want to vomit and then Messi - who is great - but is Argentina!! Can you image Mardonna playing with Zico or Socrates? Also, does Brazil ever see Brazil play at home? All the friendlies this year have been in Europe - very strange - it seems that the national team or the worlcup is more of an allstar tournament with everyone knowing everyone else. Is there any separation anymore? When did this all change that a team like Barcelona can have so many non- spanish players. It would be like the Lakers having no americans playing basketball. It seems as if Barcelona is more of an international brand, Real Madrid the same - and other clubs - Inter Milan etc.

I realize my post is very off topic but - I wanted to say hi - what is the schedule for brazil, where do I get it? - Cheers - see yuo in 2014…
