Brazil 0 Bolivia 0: Brazil back to being Dunga’s Brazil

October 13th, 2008 | By: jalil | No Comments »

There really was no need to post immediately after this match was completed as I think we all agree Dunga’s Brazil were back and better than ever for this match. Dunga showed all his managing skills by making to draw a match with the team lying at the bottom of the table, a team who have the worst record of conceding in the table and in all honesty haven’t got much of a chance in qualifying. The manner of the result was a lot still for me to swallow, in the whole match I think Brazil may have had two shots on goal, no penetration and no attacking play for anywhere on the pitch. I think this upcoming sentence really does sum up the debacle I witnessed; we were mediocre and defensively tight against the Chileans, whilst against Bolivia it’s just plain to say we were a walking joke.

A quick analysis is needed for this painful experience of football. Firstly we sucked, not very hard to define, we were really bad in every aspect of the game defensively we nearly were exposed by Marcelo Moreno, the only problem was in the second half when Bolivia could’ve made a push, Ricardo Texiera may have paid the officials to get a Bolivian player sent off to try and pull the match back in Brazil’s favour (Nice oscar injury impression Robinho). Brazil then managed to play for around thirty minutes with a man extra, which in Dunga’s playbook seems to be unplayable and a draw in this situation is needed as the opposition has grown stronger by being 10-men. Ye I know it makes no sense but needless to say Brazil played worse with a man advantage. The players themselves, especially the usual culprits (Ronaldinho, Diego) Gave vintage performances for the selecao, doing precisely nothing all game accept for Diego to constantly be a midfield annoyer and Ronaldinho to be a playwaster. There were times when Ronaldinho tried a few dribbles maybe tried to give the match a go, but whatever it was, psychologically or physiologically it wasn’t happening. As has been proved before when Robinho isn’t inspired and carries the team Dunga has no answer to other teams, and Brazil becomes a blunt knife against any opposition. Brazil’s Line-up for the game was;

Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Luisao, Juan, Lucas (Julio Baptista, 61), Josue, Diego (Elano, 77), Ronaldinho (Nilmar, 76), Robinho, Luis Fabiano.

There really is no need for a player rater for this match as which I normally do because all the players may have got a rating between 1 and 3, plus my comments for these so called professional representatives of the greatest football team on earth lets just say would be close to the goodfellas script. I think all that really needs to be commented is the fact Nilmar, a player who I have thought could still be destined for great things in the future hardly got a look in the match. Even better was he played totally out of position? Maybe plying his trade in Brazil isn’t great credentials for Mr European tact ion Dunga. The beast Baptista who is looking ever increasingly as our most effective player, so if he’s our reliance for team play then we really are in the ‘shit’s’ so to speak. Ronaldinho really needs to stop playing for the Brazil national team as a rehab. I can see he is getting some continuity playing for Milan and working hard there, so I turn keep working hard there until you know you can bring your best for Brazil (if it ever does come back).

Well this match shows that we can beat Chile 3-0 one day away and at home draw 0-0 with the worst placed team in the league. Well done Bolivia the celebrations at the end were very nice to see, even when the people at the stadium warmed to them calling Bolivia (to piss off Dunga). Hardly anybody turned up for this fixture because Dunga has turned the national pride, the national football team into a joke. Clever thinking by the people of Rio the CBF likes to make money, hit them in their pockets and they may start to see Dunga as a loss maker for their gobal product, by keeping him in the job for the long run. Dunga’s 3-0 victory shows that miracles do occur on a regular basis like Independence Day for example, but in reality constant flowing football, the Brazilian way is the way to play football to over come any team. Unity in team play will break any defence not negative tactics. The difference between this match and the one against Chile was against Chile Brazil were mediocre dull and bad but were saved by a miracle and a very bad Chile performance, they maybe thought they could play even worse and attain a similar result, only difference was no independence day (or a little bit of Robinho) to falsely win a match. Quick note for home based player discrimination, Juan did an efficient job for the national team. Not great but gave it his all on an off day, he isn’t the answer to the left-back position and I don’t think he should be picked at this level, but at least he was given the chance. I believe more emphasis should be placed on home grown talent in reference to youth and in general to bring up players from in the Brasilero to the national team, players such as Ibson and Jonatas of Flamengo, Wagner of Cruzerio, Alex of Inter, players like these and also Nilmar are all players of calibre and should be given a fair chance as well as other players from Europe. (like give freaking Hernanes the CM start he needs, not Gilberto Silva or some other has been or untalented pair of lungs lying round)
