Poll of the Day: Coaching Search

As we did in March, its time to get a feel of who readers of the blog would like to see as the next manager of the national team.

  • Geojean97

Brazil will need a coach who has tangible experiences in managing a soccer team! For example, if a team was champion in a tournament, the coach of that team can be selected for the squad; this sounds simple, but can be effective. Dunga himself would not want to be the coach after such a failure of the team; he has done what could have been good for the team in tems of selection, but that didn't prove to be successful. Brazil need some new good footballers and a new coach with new visions! If you want Felipe Scolari, then that means you really want the same mess that happened in 2010 to be repeated in 2014!

  • Kenny

Hahahah!!!!!!! Can't wait for tomorrow's game. Super duper excited!!!!!!!!!!!This is gonna be the finals before the finals. I can't even sleep tonight. Spain or Germany-tough to decide!!!!!

  • Black Matt

You know, its funny all these people voting for Scolari. I really like Scolari and would have no problem with him returning, but really…he's not much different from Dunga. Like, at all. A lot of the same criticisms leveled at Dunga (not Brazilian enough, not enough flair, too rigid, etc.) were said about Scolari too…before he won the World Cup.

I voted Mano Menezes. Whoever coaches now is not necessarily (or even likely) to the be coach for 2014. But I'd like to see what Menezes can do, and I think he'd be more familiar with the domestic players that are likely to be called up in the next year or so.

Wow, Matt, I could've written almost that exact same post. I too voted for Menezes, btw.

Felipao scares me, esp. after what I saw him do at Chelsea and with Portugal. I just don't think he has the same effectiveness anymore. I think the game has passed him by. First off, I am very dubious about–in the modern game–any coach can winning 2 world cups, no matter how good he may be. Look at Lippi. It's just a much more difficult game now. 2002 seems a long time ago now, the way the game has changed so much. Second, Felipao doesn't seem to me to have the acumen and cleverness to face really tough international challenges anymore. Maybe he can probably win another Brazilian campeonato (again, maybe) but another world cup? I just don't see it.

As for Leonardo….again, I'm dubious as to his ability to face such a tough international challenge. He did ok in Serie A, started out very naive but got better as the season progressed. He really did revive Ronaldinho (tho not as much as we'd all like to see). But a world cup? Leonardo to me seems like a very nice guy who could one day become a good coach. But a world cup needs someone ruthless and really hard-headed. Of course, he does seem to have a quiet equilibrium and temperament, which is essential for the job.

As for Luxembourgo, please dear god, NO.

It certainly would be a huge step up for Menezes but for me, he seems to have the temperament and mettle for it.

Of course, I thought that about Dunga and he turned into a hysterical, out of control lunatic on the touchline at the world cup (something I'd never seen him do before this tournament).

We have like minds. I too voted for Mano Menezes. I think we need fresh blood and fresh perspectives. We need to stop oscillating between extremes and find a balance between soundness and flair. Then we can finally start taking advantage of the Brazilian talent pool and start playing winning futebol again.

  • Kenny

In as much as I love Germany, this is a gonna be a difficult game for them to win. They will be facing a team more organized from offense to defense unlike Argentina and England. in fact I believe they would have struggled against an organized team like Brazil where the back line is more tighter limiting their counter attacking opportunities. I will pick Spain to win this game since Spain will likely overwhelm them with their superior possession and Germany will also miss Muller

  • Kenny

Boy, I love the German national anthem. it's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ayaya

They would have lost against Brazil, that's for sure. Actually any team in this WC would, unless lady luck is on their side…

  • Paul

I am absolutely clueless on any of these suggested “coaches” except for Scolari … what we need is someone who really appreciate Jogo bonito football like the way Brasil should be represented … PERIOD!! I haven't voted as yet but I'll do more read up on these coaches pretty soon.

  • Sid

scolari wont be chosen because hes commiting to his club until 2012 so hes out

This article says it all for stubborn and emotional cocahes……too much tactics, wrong tactics and lack of tactics. No balance is downfall for some of the great South American teams.

  • Mduduzi

All I can say is welcome Mano Menez, and with him we welcome back Ronaldo to the selecao, personally i would've loved for him to be there in 2014 perhaps to score 5 more goals and put this baby to rest because i think his career was full of unfairness with injuries and all, i say he would've achieved far more than he did…but at least for about two years if he works hard then we'll see El Phenomeno once more and yes with Menez be prepared to see Dentinho making his way to the Selecao…all hail Manez…and Ronaldo!!!!

  • Mane

for all the talk of new blood it amazes me how the names of ronaldo, ronaldinho and even kaka keep popping up. let's get real, they had their time and while they are still playing decently we must look beyond 2014 and take the younger players and combine them with players who will be still in their prime for 2014 like robinho and set up a team for the next 2-3 world cups.

  • Haiti&Brasil

Was there a mess in 2010 or just a team eliminated in part by bad luck? If you want to talk about mess, ask the, Italians and the french!!

  • Black Matt

Ronaldo is my favorite player of all time but his international days are over. Hopefully he'll get called up 3 more times so he can finish with 100 caps but that's all you can hope for.

Besides, he said he's retiring in 2011 anyway.

  • Ahmed

This is the right plan Mane

  • Geojean97

It all depends on how you saw it. For Felipe Melo's deflection of the ball to score a goal for the opposing team. After that you could see for yourself the “mess” and the “chaos” of the team–totally disorganized. Of course, I would agree with you that Italy and France were a bigger “mess” that no one expected.

  • Geojean97

    I agree!

    what about socrates
