Video of the Day: Neymar

This one is not a positive clip. Last night Neymar reminded his manager and fans that he has a bit of growing up to do mentally. After not being called to take a penalty for his club last night, this was his reaction. Its not a big deal, but you would hope to see a little more class from him. This prompted Mano to respond by saying, “he needs to know how to behave.”

  • Jzlim11

Look like our little Neymar is getting cocky. This behaviour will definitely lead him to destruction. I think he won't stay long in Santos. Come on!! Grow up!!

  • Sandy

This is actually really sad. Neymar is really talented and skilled. He has a bright future ahead of him. HOWEVER, he must learn how to behave. Things have been getting worse since Robinho and Andre left, and then Ganso is out due to injury. Someone really needs to talk to Neymar. It would have been nice if Robinho could give him a call and talk to him about this. I think he will listen to Robinho. This also proves why he should stay in Brazil for 2-3 years instead of going to EPL at this point.

Honestly, it will not be a good idea for Mano to call him up in the near future (for the friendlies in October and/or November) if he cannot change his behavior. Behavior like that will definitely affect the dynamics of the team.

  • Black Matt

I don't disagree with anything you said, however I tend to think Mano SHOULD call him up, AND call up a number of veterans so they can help put Neymar in his place. I'm sorry but there's no way he acts like this if he's on the pitch (or bench) with the likes of Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Fabiano and Ronaldinho. (If only Kaka weren't hurt!) He'll want to impress, both with his play and with his attitude, and I'm sure the veterans won't hesitate to impart any advice. Which, given with how well he got on with Robinho, will probably be accepted.

No matter what your profession is, the absolute best way to grow and learn is to be around people who are 1) better than you and 2) more experienced than you.

  • Black Matt

The obvious response to this, then, is “why not go to Chelsea or Madrid or someplace now?” Simply because the pressure, the money, and the media would all negate the positive aspects of playing with older legends. And of course, the lack of playing time.

  • farooq

Really sad for Neymar. He must depressed right now. I think fame has got over his head. Unfortunately it was bound to happen. At such a young age it's not easy to deal with so much pressure. Actually it is not about him changing his attitude that matters but that he has to learn to control his emotions. He has to take lesson from what happened in order to be able to overcome pressure. If he apologizes to the ones concerned by his behaviour, it will be best for his career. I hope for the best to him.

  • Sandy

If Mano does call up a number of veterans (Lucio, Maicon, JC, Dinho…etc), then I think it will be okay to call Neymar up. I also think he probably won't behave like that if those veterans are around, and I doubt they will tolerate such behavior. However, if Mano keeps the same (or almost the same) starting XI in the near future (that is, calling up mostly youngsters, with Robinho and Dani Alves being the most experienced players), I will have reservation for sure.

But then, it is more important for Neymar to get the help and support he needs. It sounds like he does not know how to handle fame, money and pressure. With Robinho and Andre gone, while Ganso is out, all eyes are on Neymar. Unfortunately, a lot of people and the Brazilian press somehow expect him to carry Santos to victory. It is understandable that he feels overwhelmed. He needs to learn how to deal with this. If he ever dreams of playing in Europe, things could be worse. Of course, there is even more pressure when he plays for Brazil. Neymar will probably behave better if the likes of Lucio, Maicon, Dinho, and Kaka are around (well, seriously, Kaka could preach him). However, it might not completely solve the problems.

On one hand, Neymar is a young kid. On the other hand, he is a professional footballer and people expect A LOT from him. Well, I really hope Robinho could give Neymar a call ASAP.

  • http://twitter.com/kateyjonesey Kate Jones

Even RONALDO made some comment about his behavior on Twitter… Only emphasizes that Neymar has a lot of growing up to do. He did make a public apology yesterday, but we all know actions speak louder than words.

I think most imortant thing is not to get angry and you should be satisfied with what you are given because if you get angry first of all your mind is out during the period you are angry since the ( predator character or the anger character in human ) will be accompanied you and your mind hence there will be no logical action but violence

really sad for him and hope things will change

  • Ahmed

Farooq, dont you think that we have to find one good ( mulla ) for nymar to read

on him some verses ? :) or do you have any other solution in that beautiful island where you live ? do you have any sorcerer or magician there ? the doctor tablets will do the things worst in some cases .. ( i am joking )

  • farooq

Well… If you don't have any objection I can try to do the job. No sorcerer or magician is needed. Even a doctor won't be needed. All that Neymar need is good adult's tap on his head to redress the his compass.

  • farooq

The mixed nuts could have been useful too.

  • Jesse

Yes, mixed nuts will calm the nerves and allow him to refocus. Like my mom used to say, before you act out on your emotions, sit back and eat some mixed nuts.

  • farooq

My friends are saying that there is a match tonight: Spain vs Brazil. Is it a friendly? I did not hear it before.

  • http://twitter.com/kateyjonesey Kate Jones

    Women's U17 world cup.

  • farooq

    Thanks Kate.

  • annonymous

off topic but marcelo looks great in the CL

  • sandra350

If he'd gone to Chelsea, he would've been forced to grow up quick. He and Ganso have been showered with so much attention and worship, they're mobbed by fans everywhere they go. They're the center of attention. At Chelsea, he'd just be on the bench ahead of bigger names. He'd be a nobody and would have to prove himself all over again.

  • Zico is God

Neymar is getting counseling from what I've heard, correct? He is just a teenager and we only hope that this is a learning experience for him as he becomes more mature as a person. He will learn God willing…

  • Vic90

It could go either way. He'd either man up and start working, or crumble in the face of adversity and flop big time. There's no way to know for sure.

  • Ahmed

i am sure you are interested in mixed nuts Jesse

it looks i have to send you and farooq through DHL

  • Eric

This just confirms that we should not be calling up too many young players to the national team at the same time.

  • Nikic

Ok Everybody what should be the matches to look forward to this weekend?

  • Stylezp

Check out AC Milan vs Catania on saturday 18:45 UK.There will be Bhino,Dinho,Thiago Silva to see on the Milan side. Also you can try see Man Utd vs Liverpool on sunday.

  • Sandy

Unfortunately, I will need to miss AC Milan vs. Catania. sigh….Hope the Brazilian players will play well.

Looking forward to Man Utd vs. Liverpool. I wonder if Rafael and Lucas will start for their respective club or not.

  • Goose

at least hes still just a kid, but wow temper tantrums really? I hope the best for neymar, he has so much talent. And alot of time to get that temper undercontrol.

Looks like if provoked enough he could have a “melo moment”.

  • Jesse

Watch Fiorentina and Lazio on right now! Hernanes looks really hot right now. He's playing like Xabi Alonso- covering a ton of ground and feeding the ball to the attack masterfully. Also, check out Milan and Catania today at 230 eastern time. Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona should be good as well- that will be on tomorrow. And lastly, Inter vs. Palermo should be a quality game because Rafa Benitez hinted that Coutinho would start.

  • Jesse

Check out Diego's Bicycle/ Chilena kick today:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQoAQa94p4k

  • Sandy

AWESOME! I hope that Mano will at least give Diego a chance. After all, we do need a play maker.

  • Sandy

And we DO NOT need another MELO moment.

  • Sandy

Robinho is not even on the bench for Milan. I am not sure what is going on.

Yes, I wish that Coutinho could finally start. ^.^

  • http://twitter.com/kateyjonesey Kate Jones

He's been suspended for the next game, and Coach Dorival would like to suspend him for 15 days… A bit harsh, but obviously the kid was way out of line- usually Dorival is pretty reasonable with his punishments.

  • Nikic

    Thnx Million

  • Nikic

    Awesome clean finish…

  • Nikic

    AC Milan drop points again

  • Sandy

Yup. I wish that Pato and Robinho could have been on the pitch. Pato could have generated more momentum upfront with Ibra, and Robinho could have made a difference in the midfield. But I won't blame any of Milan's players. To me, the flop of the match was their coach, Allegri. In fact, he was voted the flop of the match by fans on Goal.com. He made players play out of position, he did not make any subs until the 85th minute (he should have done so much earlier, or not at all…'coz Milan were having waves of attack, and the subs stalled the momentum), and he probably didn't have any motivation skills at all. The first half was horrible. Things got better in the second half, but they just couldn't finish when the opponents' box was packed with 8-9 players. Dinho made an assist, but he should have been moved to a more central position. Allegri still does not know what to do with his players yet. Anyways, I just hope that it does not affect the performance of our Brazilian players. I hope Pato and Robinho will recover soon.

BTW, how many Brazilian players are out due to injuries?

  • Jesse

Milan doesn't have counter attack abilities without Robinho or Pato. Between Inzaghi, Dinho, Seedorf and Ibra, not one of those guys is actually fast enough to do any hard pressing. Therefore, Milan relied on popping it over Catania's defensive wall, which may have worked better if Allegri put in the 8 foot tall behemoth Ibrahimovic at CF, instead of sticking him in Pato's position.

  • Sandy

YES, Ibra should be the CF. I don't even understand why Allegri put him on the wing. It was just messed up. When Pato is fully recovered, he should play as a striker along side with Ibra. They will complement each other well. Their partnership looked promising in the Milan vs. Cesena match. I was impressed by Boateng. Seriously, that guy played as a DM, AM, RF, etc last night. His work rate was HIGH.

BTW, have you heard anything about Robinho's injury? I hope it is not too serious. After all, he is the new captain of the Selecao.

  • ayaya

Great goal, I didn't even know he went to Wolfsburg

  • Stylezp

The new Milan outlook would have prerfectly suited Leonardo who knew how to use his players. He resurrected Dinho career through proper use of the player. If you were following Milan last season you would be amazed how Leonardo managed to pull through because he had aging squad. But it was all down to proper use of players.Wonder why Berlusconi couldnt put up with Leonardo..

  • Nikic

Allegri needs to work out his tactics and get to know the strengths and weakness of his squad. Not that they where all available for the last fixture but to find the balance between attack and defense with Ibra, Pato, Dino and Bino in your squad is not going to be easy. Could not agree more with Sandy and Jesse that Milan lacked a winning game plan and it was very evident.

  • Dildinho

neymar has the potential to become great.. the question is.. done he want to be compared to a lionel messi, luis ronaldo or pele? or compared with cristiano ronaldo. so far, his attitude has been more like a cristiano.

  • Sandy

Didn't Berlusconi ask Leonardo to say and Leo refused as he said he didn't like the pressure of coaching AC Milan? Anyways, it sounds like Leo is still pissed off at Berlusconi…Hopefully, Allegri will figure out a way to use his players SOON.

By the way, AC Milan will be playing Lazio on Wednesday (I believe). Well, that means Dinho/Binho/Thiago Silva vs. Hernanes!!! Now I really think AC Milan should have singed Hernanes.

  • Nikic

Ok it's Milan vs Lazio midweek. Thnx would have missed that

  • Stylezp

No no Berlusconi did not ask Leo to stay, what hapenned when Milan lost to Man Utd in the CL Berlusconi started throwing jabs at Leo.He was like “any other coach would have won with the Milan outfit, why is it that coaches dont allow the team to play”.This is exactly what pissed Leo and he confronted Berlusconi telling him if he wants him out he can go out.Eventually Leo left Milan but that in the past. Now Leo is eying a job at Inter so he can save his revenge to Berlusconi.

Yeah well AC Milan vs Lazio on Wednesday it is..It almost slept me thanx for mentioning it..Hope all the brazilian players are going to have a good day on the pitch..I think so too that Milan should Hernanes considering the aging holding midfield they have..

  • Sandy

    Ok, some news and updates:

    1) Mano will make another call-up this Thursday. However, no opponent has been confirmed by CBF yet.
    2) When interviewed by a Portuguese news paper, Dani Alves said that he would like to see David Luiz at Barca. He believes if Barca shows interest, David Luiz will consider (although Alves said that David Luiz has not expressed his preferences yet).

Well, looking forward to see who will get a chance to play for the Selecao, but I am a bit concerned if CBF can find an opponent or not.

Clubs like Barca, Real Madrid, Man City, and Chelsea have already shown interest in David Luiz. Sooner or later, if he maintains his form and keeps improving, he will be at a big club.

  • rayne

PLEASE dont go to Barca, David Luiz. Barca is over and done with (and I hate them). I'd rather he go to somewhere where he'd get more play time consistently. Or you know, stay at Benefica. That's a good club.

  • Jesse

I hope he doesn't go to Barca because he will certainly be on the bench behind Puyol and Pique. I hear he can play both left and right back, but I don't care, I want to see him playing CB!

  • Sandy

That's my concern as well. I think Barca wants him because they know they need a replacement for Puyol, and David Luiz definitely has the potential…However, at Benfica, David Luiz is among the starting XI. If he goes to Barca he will be benched, always behind Puyol and Pique (at least in the near future or next 1-2 years). It will affect his development. Some Barca fans definitely want David Luiz, and they even suggest that Barca should sign Pato.

I definitely do not want David Luiz to go to Man City. What do you guys think about Real Madrid or Chelsea? Haha, and since I like AC Milan, I was hoping that they would sign David Luiz so that he and Thiago Silva could play together. Anyways, it is just my wish since I don't think going to AC Milan is a good move at this point.

  • Sandy

Yea, I think staying at Benfica is a good idea for now. However, sooner or later I think they will want to sell David Luiz if a big club can match their asking price. David Luiz has the potential to do well at a big club, but I agree it is important he gets a decent amount of playing time consistently. That's the only way he can improve and further develop.

  • Black Matt

I actually think that he could do well in the Premier League. The EPL doesn't affect Brazilian defenders the way it does attacking players. I think he could do very well there. Not at Man City, but at Chelsea for instance.

  • rayne

I personally, would love it if David Luiz went to RM. Especially with Ricardo Carvalho there – RC has a LOT he can teach someone like David Luiz. But he and Pepe are pretty consistent…

I just want David Luiz there because I love Real Madrid, so I'm not exactly an impartial party.

  • ayaya

I would love to see David Luiz at AC Milan, but I would have to agree that it's not a good move. Maybe he should just stay for a year or two in Benfica and get some playing time?

  • Jesse

Man Milan V Lazio should be exciting. Hope to see Robinho get a start this time with Ibra sniping in the center. I also hope Hernanes sees some good action, as he has been looking consistently strong in every match so far with Lazio. At the end of the day, though, I hope that Milan edges Lazio, because I want to see them gain some momentum coming into their CL game against Ajax.

  • http://twitter.com/kateyjonesey Kate Jones

He definitely shouldn't go to Man City, that would be a disaster. He wouldn't get much playing time, and well, Mancini's a bit of a brat.

  • Sandy

Although I am not a fan of Chelsea, I think David Luiz could do well there (and it also means he will be playing alongside Ramires again…HaHa…). But most important of all is that he gets plenty of playing time.

  • Kenny

With respect to David Luis, I really would prefer him to stay in Benefica for several reasons least of which is my fear that he may end up in the sidelines in the top european teams.

    1. Milan will not be a good option since Nesta and Thiago Silva have a solid partnership that will be hard to dislodge. Besides Nesta being Italian and the better center back will most likely not be the one to be dropped if Luiz really has to start. So that forces the coach to choose between Thiago Silva and Luiz which will not be ideal for most Brazilain Fans since we will prefer if these two players start wherever they are gonna be playing.

    2. Real Madrid based on history is not ideal for a young defender whose confidence may be shattered if sidelined on the bench. A club which found defensive stalwarts such as Makelele and Walter Samuel expendable is not ideal for Luiz. We need him playing and Madrid based on past history and reputation is the worst choice of the whole lot.

    3. Chelsea already has two solid center backs in Terry and Alex with a very solid back up in Ivanovich. In fact of all the potential teams listed, Chelsea has the best group of center backs (if you include the back ups)

    4. Inter Milan is a moot point since Walter Samuel and Lucio are the best starting center back s in the world currently.

    5. I don't like Manchester city since I don't trust Mancini period. Besides Kolo Toure, Kolarov, and Lescott are pretty good and that may put Luiz on a short leash if he doesn't perform.

    6. Pepe Guardiola has shown a history of prefering Spanish players to foreign ones so I don't envision Luiz displacing Pique or Puyol. This is a coach who choose Pedro and Bojan over Giovanni Dos Santos, Ibrahimovich and Henry or prefers Busquets over Yaya Toure, Mascherano or Keita. In their last game against Athletico is a great example. He had mascherano and Keita on the bench while Busquets was on the starting line up. Even an idiot knows that these two players are miles ahead of Busquest talent wise and any comaprison to those two is tanatamout to pure stupidity

  • Nikic

Extremely well compiled – but reading your post looks like Barca unfortunately are the only ones who might be shopping for extra CB cover. I say unfortunately becaz I dont want Luiz to land up in Barca under Guardiola some of his choices from time to time is indeed very strange.

  • Stylezp

Since Puyol is on the verge of calling it a day it looks Barca might be looking for a CB replacement to intergrate with Pique.Hence the reason why there might be talk by Alves of wanting to see David Luiz @ Barca. That make Barca the only possible credible move David Luiz can make.Let me say if David Luiz is to go play regular first team football @ Barca let it be.But if not hell no let the lad stay @ Benefica for development.
